How to create a template with Compose?

Through this exercise, we are going to see how to create a New Composite Document based on a blocks template created with the Wizard tool.

This tool can come in handy to personalize the objects that are placed in a UV printer and inside a physical wood or plastic template.

That is why we created this exercise, in which we will create a Composite Document to print on phone cases. Additionally, by the end of this exercise, you are going to know other functionalities of the Compose module:

  • How to use the Wizard tool
  • Drag and drop several files in the Compose workspace
  • Create a Composite Document

Info

Thanks to the Wizard, you can create tailored templates, however, this tool will only allow you to create square or rectangular blocks.

4. A pop-up will appear, in which you can enter the block sizes manually as well as the spacing between them. In this exercise, each block should match a phone case slot of the physical template loaded in the printer. Setup the block sizes like this:

5. As seen before, the block sizes are now matching the PDF sizes we are going to use for this exercise. After specifying the width, height, and spacing of each form, you can click on auto to automate the distribution of the blocks on the page:

6. After validating the Wizard configuration, you will see 32 perfectly aligned blocks in your workspace:

Drag and drop several documents

Your document is now set and you can place the 4 PDF documents you have previously loaded in the Image bar. The idea is to place automatically each image in the 32 blocks.

  Good to know

In this exercise, it is necessary to have 32 blocks before proceeding with the next steps and to reach the final result.

7. Before you drag and drop the files in the document, select all the blocks:

8. Now, select the 4 PDF documents in the Image Bar and drag and drop them into one of the active blocks while pressing the ctrl key.

For each image, you will have to indicate the number of copies. In this exercise, we would like to print 8 copies of each PDF file (4 x 8 = 32):

After validating the number of copies of each image, the blocks will be automatically filled, following the path below:

Save the document in the Image Bar

Once your composition is done, you can save this new document into the Image Bar to send it to the print process.

9. To do that, click on Create in the bottom right of the Compose window then select New Composite Document:
