This article explains how to measure a calibration target with a Barbieri Spectro LFP qb using CalderaRIP or Barbieri Gateway, then import the measurement data into CalderaSubmit.
The workflow has three steps:
- Print the target in CalderaSubmit.
- Measure the target in CalderaRIP or Barbieri Gateway using manual positioning instead of automatic detection.
- Import the CGATS measurement file into CalderaSubmit.
The example below covers linearization. The same general workflow can also be used for profiling, with the appropriate target and measurement settings.
Info
The screenshots show an earlier software interface. Some labels or controls may differ in your version.
The chart dimensions, positioning offsets, and aperture described below apply to this example. Check that they match your printed target and media before measuring.
1. Print the target
In CalderaSubmit:
- Go to Settings > Devices & Presets.
- Select a printer, or create one if needed.
- Select a preset, or create one if needed.
- Activate Linearization (second step of the Printer Calibration Wizard in recent versions).
-
Click Measure.
- Select an X-Rite spectrophotometer configuration and a measurement condition. Create these configurations if needed. The original example uses an i1Pro 3 Plus configuration.
-
Print the target.
2. Measure the target
Use either CalderaRIP or Barbieri Gateway to measure the printed target.
With CalderaRIP
In EasyMedia:
- Select a CMYK+1N color set in a printer and media configuration.
- Use manual detection to position the target.
-
Position the three corners using the keyboard arrow keys. Hold Shift while pressing an arrow key to move faster. For this target, position the two upper corners 1.8 mm from the top of the first row.
- Complete the measurement.
- Locate the CGATS measurement file in the ARCHIVES folder within your user directory. The path and filename depend on your configuration.
Example path:
~/Easy/.../ARCHIVES/CalderaJet_MTSB_100x100_CMYKR_2p.2.lin.lect
With Barbieri Gateway
In Barbieri Gateway:
-
Select Chart Measurement, then click New Job.
-
Go to 3rd Party Software, select Caldera Linearization QuickCal_05, then create a new chart.
-
Right-click the generated chart, then select Edit Job.
-
Set Number of Patches Y to 5 to include the white row in this target.
-
Select Use Manual Positioning. For the textile measurement shown in this example, select an 8 mm aperture.
-
Check the output folder so you can locate the measurement file afterward. Select at least Spectral values and use the default Barbieri - Horizontal output format, which stores the measurements in CGATS format.
-
A reference file is not required for this example. If prompted to continue without one, confirm that you want to proceed.
-
Select Position on corners, then use the scrollbars to position the measurement head at each of the three corners.
-
Click the double right-arrow button in the lower-right corner to start measuring. Wait for the measurement to finish.
-
When using an 8 mm aperture, the warning shown below may appear. Review the warning before confirming whether to continue measuring each row.
- Locate the spectral measurement file in the selected output folder.
Example filename:
Chart-1-2023121311420000.spd.txt
3. Import the measurements
Return to the measurement window in CalderaSubmit. Import the CGATS measurement file, then continue the linearization or profiling process.
