Hotfolders enable you to manage your files effectively. However, when dealing with multiple files, you might encounter some unexpected behaviors, particularly in managing barcode duplicates. This article will help you understand what might go wrong when processing many files with Hotfolders and the limitations behind it:
Barcode/ID Duplicates
Even with the implementation of the new algorithm in CalderaRIPV17.2, ID/barcode duplicates may still occur from time to time. This can be caused by multiple limitations that need to be carefully considered when handling your files through Hotfolders/Nexio:
When the driver is started, it generates approximately 1M unique barcodes to assign to files. Once exhausted, the driver generates another 1 million barcodes. However, since the first 1M is not saved, you might end up with duplicates of the two sets (1M), which leads to barcode overloads and errors in file tracking.
Restarting the driver leads to a new generation of barcodes. This will make it difficult to maintain continuity in barcode assignments. Any files processed before the reset may have their barcode identifiers overwritten, potentially causing tracking difficulties or data loss if not managed carefully.
If you are using many drivers, you should know that drivers do not communicate with each other on barcode IDs, so your files might end up with identical barcodes.
