This feature is exclusive to CalderaCare subscribers with cutter drivers that have material associations (GrandCut such as ZCC3, CalderaXML, OptiScout, ...).
The Smart Materials feature allows for automatic association between the printer's media and the cutter's material, making your workflow more efficient by reducing manual intervention.
Using this feature, you can configure filters based on media properties such as material name, GUID, or type, to ensure that each print job uses the correct material.
How to enable Smart Materials?
- Open CalderaRIP.
- Open the Print Module of any of your printers. Then, go to Page Setup > Cutting tab.
- If you haven't already, click on Enable Cutting Contour. Click on Tools:
- A pop-up will open with the Cutter tools configuration. Go to the Materials tab and click on the Smart Materials Button:
- Define a regular expression (which will act as a filter), to create automatic associations.
For example, you can use@(name)to match materials by their name.
Good to know
Metadata is identified by ReGex tags, as in the SmartImport function.
- Apply or Update Associations:
- Apply to all: Resets all current associations and applies the filter to all materials.
-
Update new only: Reassociates media that are linked to the DEFAULT material.
Info
If you manually associated a media to the DEFAULT material after installing CalderaRIP V18.0, the association will not be modified.
- The feature is now active for this specific cutter. You can create different filters for each cutter.
Possible parameters for the regular expression (filter)
Here are the possible parameters you can use in the regular expression to define how materials are associated with media:
- @(name): Matches the material name with the media name.
- @(GUID): Matches the material's Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) with the media name.
- @(type): Matches the material type with the media name.
Example of use
-
Filter:
- = *@(name)

Known limitations
- Once you create new media (in the EasyMedia module), you must go to the Cutter tools configuration or do a RIP/Print from the Printer's module, with this cutter.
This triggers the Smart Materials feature, as well as other synchronization of the cutter's internal configurations. - Preset / QuickPrint: Some cutter presets, such as CalderaXML and GoProduce, must contain the actual material definitions, specifically for the client/server configuration. You may have to re-save the preset if you triggered a change of association after the preset was created.
