Depending on your operating system and the manufacturer of your printer, some error messages may appear in the Print Management module, or directly in the Spooler module once you send your file to print:
- "This job has been prepared for an older software version"
- "Invalid job, missing essential data"
These messages are shown when the configuration of the job that you are trying to print is "corrupted". In other words, the printer driver is not able to read a previously ripped file to send it to print.
Why does this happen?
This may occur when a new version of the driver or a new CalderaRIP version has been installed. Example case: you RIP a job with a CalderaRIP V14, and then you upgrade your station to V16. Then, you try to print the previously ripped file.
Unfortunately, this example is not the only way in which the error messages can appear.
Recently, we have seen other situations where the printer firmware is updated and is no longer compliant with CalderaRIP in terms of closing communication channels. In these cases, the printer driver ends up with too many open communication channels and needs a regular reboot to re-establish communication properly.
We are working with the two printer manufacturers involved to find a long-term solution, but in the meantime, read on to troubleshoot the problem.
Solution 1: Restart the print job
If your problem is due to the example case related to software versions, the first solution is simply to restart the printing process of this job from the beginning.
To do this, we recommend that you reopen the job directly from the "Reopen" button in the Spooler module.
If not possible, or if reopening the job doesn't work, then reload the image in the Print Module of your printer and re-apply the configuration your job original job had (now with the good driver/software version).
Solution 2: Stop the printer driver
- Go to the Settings tab
- Open the ServerAdmin module
- Select the printer that shows the error message
- Click on the button "Stop Server" and, when asked if you really want to stop the printer, click "Yes":
- Another pop-up will ask you for the localhost password. Type "caldera" (in lowercase) and click on “OK”:
- The printer driver (printer server) will automatically restart when you open it again (double-clicking the printer icon or dragging and dropping a file on top of the printer icon).
Solution 3: Completely reset the printer driver
If the previous solution didn't work or the issue persists, try the following:
