By default in CalderaRIP, there is no easy-to-use option to simultaneously print different images on each roll of a two-roll printer. However, it is possible to do this type of printing by using the Compose module.
Information applicable for CalderaRIP V13 or before, as well as for users of dual-roll printers.
Step 1
- You first need to create a roll size having for size the sum of the two rolls and the distance between them. For example:
- Two rolls having 1500 mm each = 3000 mm
- Distance between the rolls = 200 mm
- Roll size to create = 3000 + 200 = 3200 mm.
- To create the roll you have to go to Settings -> ServerAdmin, select the printer, and click on Configure... You will then be able to create the roll in the Pages tab:
Step 2
- Open the Compose module.
- At the bottom left, choose the printer and the new roll size you just created. You should put for height the expected length of the job you will print.
- On the right side of the module, in the Objects area, click on the Image Bloc icon to create an area in which no print will be done:
- The X0 position of this area should be at the end of the first roll, so the size of the first roll and the Y0 position should be 0.
- The width (W) of the area should be the distance between the rolls.
- The height (H) of the area should be the height of the printing area (same size as H at the bottom left of Compose).
- Once all is set, you will have the left side of the printing area of this composition used for Roll 1 and the right side used for Roll 2.
Step 3 (Optional)
- If you plan to use this composition configuration often, we advise you to Export it as a template to be able to easily import it back later. The Export and Import buttons are at the bottom of the Compose module:
Step 4
- You can now place the various images you want to print on the left and right areas representing the rolls. The images should not be placed over the middle area as this one will not be printed.
- On the right side of the module, you can use the Alignments settings to correctly align them with each other:
Caution
Don't use the Nesting buttons in Compose when working with these kinds of jobs, as it would also move the middle area that you need to keep in its place.
- Once you have positioned the images as you wish on both rolls, you can delete the middle (empty) area and adjust the height of your composition.
- Then you can create your composition by using the Create button at the bottom of Compose:
Step 5
- Your composed file is now ready to be printed, so you can drag and drop it into your print module.
Caution
You must use the roll size you created before specifically for the dual-roll printing.
- Configure the rest of your options and you are ready to print:
