In this article, we will show you how to configure several printers of the same model (Mimaki JV33 or JV34) in the same RIP station. If you follow these steps, your CalderaRIP will not lose communication with any of your devices.
Warning
Printer drivers should not be mixed between different printer models, nor should they be confused with cutter drivers. Check CalderaDock and/or WorkSpace regularly, so that you always have the latest driver version available for your device.
Preparation for the configuration
- On the printer panel of the Mimaki printer, there should be an option to change the name of each device (jv33-01, jv33-02, jv34-01, jv34-02, etc.)
- When a new name is assigned to the printer, the printer has to completely shut off at the main power switch and not just the on/off button in front of the printer
- The new name will be set into the Mimaki JV33 (for example) and be broadcasted to CalderaRIP
- Avoid naming your device with high numbers like JV33-99 as they will not properly appear
Configuration
- After you gave each Mimaki a unique name, open Caldera > Settings Tab > Server Admin > Devices Button > USB tab.
- You should see the different Mimaki names for each device as it will scan the USB bus.
- Assuming you already have installed one printer driver (for example the Mimaki-JV33-4C), use the Duplicate button in the Settings Tab > Server Admin. Acknowledge printer driver duplication (the password is caldera), provide a unique name (like Mimaki-JV33-4C-2 or something similar), and acknowledge that the duplication is completed. Close the server admin.
- Restart Caldera so the printer icon for the second driver will be added.
- Go back to the Settings Tab > Server Admin and configure each printer driver. Enter in the device field the device id, which appears in the model column of the Devices > USB tab.
First printer
- Select the printer > Configure > enter the device id (in this case JV33-01) > Proceed (password, caldera).
Second Printer
- Now select the second printer > Configure > > enter the device id (in this case JV33-02) > Proceed. If this is done quickly enough, the software will not ask for the password (otherwise use the password, caldera).
How to verify that the configuration worked?
Open each printer driver by double-clicking the printer icon > wrench icon and then Select the status tab to check ink levels, etc.
