Resolutions and Passes

For a streamlined user experience, the drivers offer a relevant subset of available resolutions rather than every potential option. Additionally, not all combinations of resolution and pass settings are supported.

The following table displays the available modes, including the availability of high-speed head movement:

Printer Settings

Printer tab

Here is an explanation of every specific parameters provided in CalderaRIP for the JV5 series:

  • Cut media: Use the internal cutter at the end of the job. Be careful, this cutter is only able to cut
vinyl and paper. Cutting textiles and banners will usually fail.
  • High Speed: Controls the speed of the head movement. This parameter should usually be
enabled. If it is set and the resolution and passes combination doesn't allow it, it will
    automatically be ignored.
  • Refresh level: Onprint head cleaning frequency. Unchecking it will force the use of the
    printer's panel settings.
  • Print color pattern: Prints the color stripe on the edge to prevent nozzle drying. Be sure to use
the proper loading to get the right margins ( "RollxxCP" over "Rollxx" ).
  • Scan width: Amplitude of the head movement when the job width is smaller than the printer's
width. Usually, keep the "Printer" setting to ensure printing quality.
  • Dot type: "Automatic" setting uses the full variable dot set, whereas other settings force the use
of only one of the available drop sizes. This parameter should be kept to "Automatic"in
production. Others settings will change the ink amount an calibration.

Media tab

Some parameters are specific to the media. Unchecking them will force the use of the printer's panel
parameters:

  • Temperatures: Temperatures for the three heaters.
  • Feed adjust: Adjust the media advance compensation to prevent banding. The default setting is 0.
  • Overprint: Put more ink on the media. The normal setting is 1.
  • Drying time per scan: Pause between the passes to improve the ink drying. The default setting is 0.
  • Absorption fan: Strength of the drying fan.
  • Drying time: Pause at the end of the job to allow the ink to dry.

Know Issue with Printing Speed

The 540x1080-6 pass can achieve a printing speed of approximately 40 m²/h. However, using Caldera's "Rip-on-the-Fly" feature (Action = "Print") with complex PostScript jobs may cause gradual deceleration of head movements.

To mitigate this issue, we recommend using the "Compute Reprint then Print" option when needed. Additionally, avoid using bilinear interpolation with PostScript files.

Additional Information

With the release of the Mimaki JV5 printer drivers version 9.10 (Revision B), an option has been added in the Printer Module Interface (Wrench icon > Advanced) to enable communication as in earlier driver versions.

For newer models, this option should remain unchecked, while older models do not require this setting.
