DGen / DGI printers - How to create or duplicate a spot ink for SPC?

The following information is for users of older versions of DGI / Dgen printer drivers with SPC penetration ink capability. In recent versions, the first part of the process can be easily done with the ServerAdmin module.

If you need to create, duplicate, or change the default values of the spot ink for SPC, please follow the steps below.

  Good to know

SPC stands for "Stylish Printing Control," a penetration ink developed by Dgen/DGI. This document explains why penetration fluid is used and provides practical examples of its application, such as for flags.

Create (or duplicate) SPC as Spot Ink

  1. First, stop the printer driver from running in CalderaRIP:
    • Open CalderaRIP.
    • Go to the Settings tab.
    • Click on ServerAdmin.
    • Select the printer.
    • If the state is "Running", click on the "Stop Server" button
    • A confirmation will appear. Click Yes and enter your administration password (most probably "caldera") to apply the stop.
    • Close ServerAdmin.
  2. Then, paste this file in the following location: /opt/caldera/lib/DRIVERS/RES
    • The text file includes one SPC spot ink channel. You can add a second channel by duplicating the first and giving it a different name (e.g., COLORANT = SPC_1 and COLORANT = SPC_2).

        Info

This article uses the “DGen-Teleios-GT” printer driver as an example; however, the same process applies to other models that support SPC ink.
If you are using a different model, be sure to rename the .txt file to match the exact name of your driver.

  3. Restart CalderaRIP.

  4. Open the Print module of your printer and click on Page Setup.
  5. You should see one or more SPC tabs (or whatever you named them) at the end:

  6. After setting the spot ink(s), close the Page setup.

Map the newly created spot color(s)

  1. Now go to Printer Settings (wrench icon) > Inks tab.
    • Here you can set the ink mapping to include the SPC ink.
    • If you have two SPC inks, select each one based on its Colorant name.
  2. Enable ink reordering and add the SPC ink(s).
    • You may have to do some testing with the order to get it right:
