DGen / DGI printers - Troubleshooting for Custom Inkset with process inks

This article explains how to correctly configure additional process inks in EasyMedia so that they are mapped to the proper printer channels, on some DGEN printers (such as Teleios or Arachne Hexa).

When creating a Custom Inkset with additional colors (such as Orange or Blue) with this devices, it may happen that the extra colors are not printed during the linearization target generation.

The name assigned to the custom ink determines which hardware ink channel is used. If the naming does not match the channel number expected by the printer, the additional colors will not be addressed correctly and therefore will not print.

Considerations

Some DGEN printers identify additional inks using numbered channels (for example Spot 1, Spot 2, etc.). The number associated with each channel must match the name assigned to the ink in the Custom Inkset configuration.

Before creating the Custom Inkset, it is recommended to verify which channel corresponds to each additional color.

For example:

  • Spot 1 → Orange
  • Spot 2 → Blue

For more information, refer to the general documentation on Custom Inksets, which covers:

  • How to create a process ink in EasyMedia
  • And how to create and edit the default values of a Spot Ink tab in ServerAdmin

Verify the printer channel names

  1. From the printer control panel, print a test page.
  2. Check the name assigned to each channel for the additional colors.
  3. Identify the corresponding channel number (for example Spot 1 or Spot 2).

These numbers will be used when defining the custom inks in EasyMedia.

Create the Custom Inkset with additional colors

Configure the additional inks in EasyMedia.

  1. Open EasyMedia.
  2. Double‑click on the Printer icon.
  3. Select the printer where the Custom Inkset will be used.
  4. Open an existing Media Project, or create a new one using New....
  5. Click Edit Inksets….

Create the new inks

Within the InkSets > Inks tab:

  1. Click New… to create a custom ink.
  2. Configure the following properties:
    • Type: Process
    • Template: Select the corresponding color (e.g., Orange or Blue).
    • Name: Enter the channel number detected on the printer test page.
    • Initial: Enter the usual color initial (for example O for Orange or B for Blue).

Example configuration:

If the printer test page shows:

  • Spot 1 → Orange
  • Spot 2 → Blue

Then configure the inks as:

  • Name: 1 | Template: Orange | Initial: O
  • Name: 2 | Template: Blue | Initial: B

Ignore any EasyMedia warning messages regarding duplicate initials.

Verify the Custom Inkset

After creating the inks, the resulting print mode should include the additional colors (for example CMYKOB):

In the InkSets window, the additional channels may appear using their numeric names, confirming the correct mapping to the printer ink channels:

If configured correctly, the additional colors will now be printed when generating the linearization target.
