How to set contours with Compose?

The Compose module allows the user to create lines and objects for which cut contours can be created.

Contours can be defined in the Compose Setup. Click on the Setup button, at the bottom of the main module window, then click on the tab Entities. Here you access Contour settings where you can enable them and set them up as cut contours.

  Info

Cut contours cannot be created on fonts, only on text blocs.
Contours created in the Compose module can be defined as cutting paths. When different images are placed in a composition, their edges can also become cutting paths.

You can put a frame around several images and turn it into a cut contour, for example:

Non-embedded vector contours

When a contour is located in another file, instead of in the image itself, you can use the Compose module to make the contour correspond to the image again.

Limitations

Using the ellipse tool in Compose for cut contours is not recommended for the following reasons:

  • The tool does not create a properly closed shape, which can result in bleeding errors during Contour Nesting.
  • The clip box is calculated incorrectly, causing sorting issues with the cutout tracing algorithms present in CalderaRIP V10 and later.
  • Unlike ellipses from PDF, EPS, or PS files, the ellipse tool does not convert to Bezier curves and relies on an outdated segmentation algorithm, leading to suboptimal results.
