How to create a custom driver in CalderaRIP?

The software allows you to create custom drivers with or without profiles, ink sets, and ink orders.

This is useful for experienced operators who need to tailor settings for unique production requirements, such as adapting a generic driver for compatibility with a different printer model.

This article explains how to create a custom driver, for which we will take an existing driver (Durst Lambda in this example) and duplicate it with custom parameters for use with an Oce Lightjet printer.

  1. If you do not already have a printer driver installed, install one. In this example, we will use the Durst Lamba driver.
  2. Open CalderaRIP.
  3. Go to the Settings tab and click on the ServerAdmin icon:

  4. When the Server Administration opens, select the driver to duplicate and click on Configure
  5. A new window will open, directly in the Connection tab. Click on the button Create a custom driver... Custom Driver.png

  6. In the Custom Driver Configuration window, change the Printer name, Manufacturer, and Revision. Select the options you want to include in the copied driver. In this example, we included Medias and Profiles: Custom Driver Step 2.png

  7. At the bottom, you can see the location of the original driver, and when you click on Build Driver you will also see the location of the newly created driver.

      Good to know

In recent versions, the path is: /opt/caldera/var/public/CustomDrivers/
In older versions, the path is: /home/public/CustomDrivers

Save that address, so you can locate and install the new driver later:

  8. The new custom driver can now be reinstalled or used with a different instance of CalderaRIP.

      Info

The created driver must match the version of the CalderaRIP in use. For instance, a driver built for version 17.2 can only be installed and used with software version 17.2.
