How to take screenshots on my computer?

This article outlines the steps to take a screenshot on various operating systems, including Debian, Kubuntu, and macOS.

 

On Debian 8 and 9

  1. Using the tool included in the OS:
    • Open the Applications menu.
    • Go to Accessories.
    • Select Take a Screenshot. This will open a tool that allows you to capture the entire screen or a specific area:

  2. Other ways to take a screenshot may vary depending on the desktop environment you use:
    • Use the Print Screen Key: Press the Print Screen key to capture the entire screen. The screenshot will typically be saved in your home directory or the Pictures folder.
    • Use other Screenshot Tools: You can also use built-in screenshot tools or applications like Shutter or GIMP for more advanced options.

 

On Debian 2.3

To take a screenshot on Debian 2.3, you have a couple of options:

  1. Using the Print Screen Key: Press the Print Screen key to capture the entire screen. The screenshot will typically be saved in your home directory or the Pictures folder.
  2. Using the tool included in the OS:
    • Open the Debian Menu.
    • Navigate to Accessories.
    • Select Take a Screenshot. This will open a tool that allows you to capture the entire screen or a specific area:

On Kubuntu 8.04

For Kubuntu 8.04, you have several options for taking screenshots:

  1. Using the Print Screen Key: Press the Print Screen key to capture the entire screen.
  2. Capturing a Specific Window: Press Alt + Print Screen to capture a specific window.
  3. Using KSnapshot:
    • Open the KMenu.
    • Navigate to Graphics.
    • Select KSnapshot. This tool allows you to capture the entire screen, a specific window, or a selected area:

The screenshots will be saved in your home directory or the Pictures folder.
 

on macOS

Capturing the Entire Screen

To capture the entire screen on a Mac, hold down Command (⌘) and Shift, then press 3

This action will save the screenshot as a file on your desktop, with a filename that looks like “Screen shot YYYY-MM-DD at HH.MM.SS AM/PM.png”.

 

Capturing a Partial Screenshot

To take a partial screenshot, hold down Command (⌘) and Shift, then press 4

Use your mouse to draw a rectangle around the area you want to capture. Alternatively, you can press the spacebar after pressing Command (⌘) + Shift + 4 to capture a specific window. 

The screenshot will be saved on your desktop with a similar filename format.
