Details on the Agfa Tauro H3300 driver and Asanti rip configuration:
1) This driver doesn't make any connection to the printer or to the printer controller. It just generates separations for Asanti, the Agfa RIP that is shipped with the printer. There is a HotFolder system on Asanti that should detect the jobs and print them (more details below).
2) The separations are pure CMYK, and Contone - even when the printer has light inks (the H-3300 can be configured in CMYKcm or CMYKmk). It's Asanti that screens and separates Dark/Light Inks. Caldera does produce the Primer and White separation when configured under the page setup.
3) The resolutions configured in Caldera (300x300, 400x400 and 600x600) have nothing to do with the printing resolutions. It's the rendering resolution for generating bitmaps, Asanti will re-scale when screening.
Users can add new resolutions if they want for example faster ripping with less detail (e.g. 200x200) or more precision (e.g. 1000x1000). Usually in a Contone workflow 600x600 is sufficient, the only exception would be a file with very thin lines or text.
Note also that profiles are usable at any resolution (i.e. if you profile at 200x200 you can use it at 600x600).
4) There is no way for Caldera to specify the color mode, the print resolution, the uni/bi or any other mechanical parameters. Instead, the user will configure different HotFolders in Asanti, each HotFolder being linked to a set of mechanical parameters. Then in Caldera users will select the HotFolder they want to use for a job.
5) There are 2 ways the user is able to select the HotFolder:
- Any media/profile can be associated to a HotFolder in the media/profile settings.
- Or the user can select the output (hot) folder to use for a given job, just after clicking "Print". The folder then has priority on the HotFolder defined for the media/profile, if any.
6) In Asanti, all the HotFolders must be a subfolder of a common root folder (which will be also the base folder for the driver in Caldera), and they must be configured exactly as in the following screenshot:
The syntax __ allow the driver to specify to Asanti the number of copies to print (so this is the one and only print parameter that Caldera can send).
