This guide will teach you how to use Dual Side Printing (DSP) functionality with your HP Latex 3XX series. You can continue reading or you can watch the following video (starting at 2:45):
Overview
If you select a dual-sided printing option, you must specify if the image is on the A or the B Side. To do dual-sided printing, you have to successively send the A and then the B side so the RIP knows which sides are linked.
If you choose the Automatic Side B option, the B side is automatically created from the A side image: rotated and mirrored if needed.
By using the Roll Workflow mode, Caldera's driver allows the user to print all the jobs' A-sides while the B-sides are kept in the Spooler. The B sides can then be printed in one click once the roll has been turned over. The Roll Workflow mode makes a perfect match between each A-side and its B-side.
Workflow
Before you start, make sure that both the Print Action and the Check Side for Dual Side Printing options are enabled:
|
|
- Now that you are ready, click on the Print button. You are then asked if you want to do a Dual Sided Printing or not (Single side):
In this example: Side A, Automatic Side B (assuming same as Side A), Rotated (optional), and Roll Workflow are selected.
- Print Side A and forward media so you have at least 2.1 m (7 ft) of media. Then, unload the media.
- Feed your Side A back into the printer so that the black line feeds in first (upside down). Then, forward it till the black line is somewhere in the middle of the black part of the platen and correctly aligned with the right side.
Info
Note that this process can be challenging, as the tension of the paper may be resistant.
- Now, reload and select in the Reload menu that you loaded Side B. This will start the double-sided line detection.
- After the black line has been detected, release Side B from the Spooler (this will repeat the Side B black line detection, but it should detect it rather quickly if it is already aligned).
Additional tips
Side A with Automatic Side B will print the same image on both sides.
Side A without Automatic Side B will do Side A only first, then load a different file and select Side B.
Disable the Roll Workflow setting when using a single image. On the printer, when turning the media around, you need to tell it that you're loading Side B. Don't do a regular media load, as then Side B will not be released from the Spooler and you'll get an error stating that Side A is expected.
Example
- First send 3 copies of the job with Side A, Automatic Side B, and Roll Workflow selected:
Warning
Do not select Roll Workflow if you're only printing one Side A and one Side B.
-
After Side A prints 3 copies, reload the media as Side B from the printer's panel. The registration line has to be within 2.54cm (1 in) of the sensor, otherwise, the printer will state that the media is not loaded.
-
Right-click on Side B in the Spooler and click Print.
-
You'll be shown a message saying "You are currently in the dual-side printing roll workflow mode. All the B Sides have to be released at once. Do you want to proceed?".
-
Click Yes and it will start to print Side B then Wait for all prints to be completed successfully.
Important notes
If Side A is printed but you can't seem to print Side B, you can try the following:
- Load material with Side B on the printer and select Side B Print.
- On CalderaRIP, select Dual Side Print Side A, and Auto-generate Side B (Rotated).
- Select RIP as the action (because you don't want to accidentally print Side A on your Side B).
- Once you have ripped both sides A and B, Abort Side A and then Print Side B one at a time until finished.
Warning
If an error occurs during double-sided printing it is suggested to stop the driver before attempting to print double-sided again. In the main interface of CalderaRIP, go to Settings -> ServerAdmin -> Select your printer -> Stop Server.
