Océ LightJet - Workaround for printer driver

This article outlines the necessary steps for using older Oce printer models, such as the Oce LightJet, which are not officially supported by CalderaRIP. However, print files for these devices can be generated using a driver from another manufacturer.

Driver Installation and Configuration

  1. Follow the steps in this article. In step 1, search for the "Lambda" driver by selecting "Durst Phototechnik AG" as the manufacturer.
  2. After installing the driver, open the Print Module Interface.
  3. In Printer Settings (  ) > Printer tab, set the "File Format" to "TIFF Uncompressed":

The output TIFF file from CalderaRIP can be utilized in the LightJet's Light Fusion software.

  4. (Optional) If Light Fusion software requires TIFF files at 300 dpi, you can configure this in CalderaRIP. Navigate to Settings > ServerAdmin > Lambda > Configure... > Pages tab > New:

Network Configuration for LightJet FE Computer

The LightJet FE computer operates on an outdated Windows XP system without an internet connection. It typically connects to the PosterShop computer via a NetBEUI connection.

  1. Network Setup:
    • Connect the LightJet FE computer to the network to enable communication with Mac/Linux systems.
  2. Media Calibration:
    • You must balance the media in LightJet Fusion and link this to the Queue software.
    • Create the necessary folders as outlined in the instructions on page 63 of the attached document (specifically in the section about setting up the LightJet Queue).

Testing the LightFusion Software

  1. Prepare a test file in Photoshop with dimensions 20"x20" at 200 dpi (or 300 dpi if required).
  2. Place this file in the Hot Folder setup. This test will determine if the printing functions correctly. Ensure that the queue is associated with the appropriate media calibration file.
