Roland VersaUV LEC - Printing white and multilayer

These printers drivers allow for multiple white printing behaviors.

Behavior 1: 2xWhite and CMYK printing at same time

  1. Configuration:
    • Enable both White tabs and ensure the same separation is defined.
  2. Printing:
    • Selecting 720-W_CMYK enables the printer to print both Whites and CMYK simultaneously (White underneath and CMYK on top). This method does not create multiple layers but achieves a double strike of White if the separations match under both tabs.

Behavior 2: Multilayer Printing (Rewind between layers)

  1. Configuration:
    • Enable both white tabs and set the same separation as in Behavior 1.
  2. Printing:
    • Selecting 720 (without the suffix) results in a multilayer print. The printer will first print 2 x White, rewind, and then print CMYK on top.

Multi-Layer Settings

The following multilayer settings are accessible under the Printer Settings (wrench icon) > Printer tab:

  • Multipass Layer Order: Adjusts the layer order. Choose whether CMYK or White is on top.
  • White Overprint: Adds extra passes to increase ink density in the same area.
  • White Quality: Alters the number of passes for White layers in multilayer setups, similar to the main quality setting (e.g., 16-pass). Note that the pass numbers in Standard and High modes vary according to the selected resolution.
  • White Layers Number: Specifies the number of White layers printed, with rewinding between each layer.

When using 720-W_CMYK and setting the White Layers Number to 2, the printer will switch to multilayer mode, executing the following sequence:

  1. Print the first white layer.
  2. Rewind.
  3. Print another layer of White and then CMYK simultaneously.

Best Practices for High White Density

For optimal results, especially when seeking a high density of White, choose a resolution that avoids simultaneous printing of White and Colors. Utilize the Multilayer mode and enable White Overprint as necessary. Note that using a roll printer may result in slight shifts between layers during rewinding.

Considerations

  • The LEC330-CMYKWW printer features two White tabs in the Page Setup.
  • The LEC300-CMYKGLW only has one white tab, making the multilayer option the sole method to enhance white density.
