The Print&Cut Mirror feature has been specifically designed to offer more flexibility for advanced Print&Cut applications such as transfer sublimation and backlit printing.
This feature allows one to flip independently design, Cut Marks, and Cut files sent to the cutter device, depending on the expectations of the final result.
Print&Cut Mirror is available for VisualRIP & GrandRIP Cut Marks
Print&Cut Mirror in CalderaRIP
The Print&Cut Mirror feature is available as a list selector in the Cutting tab of the Page Setup interface:
- From the Print module, open the Page Setup window. Then, go to the Cutting tab:
- Make sure to enable Cutting Contour. Then, switch to the desired applications of the Mirror list:
Good to know
The default setting is "No mirroring", which does not mirror anything.
You will find below the explanations of each of the applications available and the corresponding steps in your workflow.
- (Optional) Since CalderaRIP V17.2, the corresponding icon in the Page Setup Preview allows you to review the option selected in the Print & Cut Mirror function:
When activated in sublimation or legacy mode, the icon goes orange.
When activated in backlit mode, the icon goes red-orange.
When the function is not activated, the icon is gray.
- Finally, print as usual from the Print module.
Applications
Print&Cut Mirror is divided into 3 main categories with some variations in the process:
- Sublimation mode: Transfer then Cut or Cut then transfer
- Backlit mode: Cut Front or Cut Back
- Legacy mode.
Sublimation Mode: Transfer then Cut
This function is advised for most of the sublimation applications: usually, the print is transferred before the cut process:
- Design is mirrored
- The Cut File is not mirrored
- Cut Marks are not mirrored
Sublimation Mode: Cut then Transfer
This function is advised for sublimation printing when transfer paper needs to be cut before the transfer process.
- Design is mirrored
- Cut File is mirrored
- Cut Marks are not mirrored
Backlit mode: Cut Front
This function is advised to print on a transparent substrate such as transparent PMMA. The Cut Front feature allows cutting the material from the unprinted side. With this mode:
- Design is mirrored
- The Cut File is not mirrored
- Cut Marks are not mirrored
Backlit mode: Cut Back
This function is advised for printed transparent support which needs to be cut such as transparent vinyl or PMMA. The Cut Back feature allows cutting the material from the printed side. With this mode:
- Design is mirrored
- The Cut File is mirrored
- Cut Marks are not mirrored
Legacy mode
This function is the same as the Mirroring function from previous CalderaRIP versions. It mirrors everything:
