The following features, which were previously included in the legacy VisualCut option, are now included in annual CalderaRIP subscriptions and perpetual licenses with CalderaCare.

When working with a large number of cut files, manually locating the correct job in the VisualCut Interface and ensuring the correct orientation between the cutter and the software can be time‑consuming.
With CalderaRIP, Summa S Series cutters can streamline this process by allowing cuts to be launched directly from the cutter’s panel. By enabling the Barcode Button feature, the operator can simply load the roll and press the barcode button on the cutter. The device will automatically detect the barcode and retrieve the correct cutting job, eliminating the need to manually start each cut from VisualCut and reducing the risk of orientation errors.

Setup in CalderaRIP
-
RIP or Print the job with Edges registration marks using a Summa S series cutter driver. These marks will include the Summa barcode:
-
Launch the VisualCut module of the Summa S series cutter driver.
-
In the Settings area, in the Positioning field, select Automatic Repeat and Enable Use barcode button option:
Info
Be aware that Use barcode button option is only available with the Automatic Repeat mode, it will not work with the Single with marks mode or None mode.
-
Set your tools settings. Do not forget that these settings may vary depending on the media used:
-
For now, loading the media in the cutter is optional.
Click on Cut. There is no need to select a specific job in the list of cut jobs before this action, it will be automatically detected.
In the Connection area, the message "Get barcode" will appear: VisualCut is now in waiting mode.
Setup in Cutter Device
- If not already done previously, load the media in the cutter and wait for the cutter to scan the media size.
-
In the cutter panel go to the Actions menu. Then click on OPOS Barcode button.
Warning
- Be aware that OPOS Barcode button location can change depending on the cutter model and firmware. Please check your cutter manual in case you cannot find it in this location.
- Be aware that OPOS Barcode button is not the same thing as OPOS Xtra option in the menus of the panel, they are not related.
- Position the tool a little bellow the 1st barcode of the job (around 1 cm) and validate the position on the cutter panel.
-
The cutter will now read the barcode of the job and look automatically for this specific job in the list of available cut jobs in the VisualCut module. Once the job has been identified it will start to cut it.
Caution
Do not close VisualCut during the process.
-
After cutting the job it will automatically look for the next job to cut on this media. This instruction is automatic and cannot be disabled: the actions in the Automatic repeat mode are always: Search for barcode --> Cut --> Search for barcode
If there is another job with the Summa barcode on this media, it will then again look for the related cut job in VisualCut and then cut the media adequately.
If no new job was found, then the cutter will give you an error on the cutter panel, but there will be no error message in VisualCut: that's normal because the module is not receiving feedback from the cutter, only waiting for instructions.
-
If you have another media to cut, load it in the cutter and start again from step 6. Repeat the process as much as you want. Restarting VisualCut between rolls is not needed.
If you don't have anything more to cut or you wish to cut another media type, you can stop the waiting mode of VisualCut by closing the window and relaunching it.
Tips & Tricks
- You can load/unload media in the cutter without restarting VisualCut, which will continue to wait until a new barcode has been detected.
Troubleshooting
Detection Error
- In case of detection error, restart the barcode detection on cutter's panel without having to restart VisualCut.
- Detection errors are not reported to VisualCut.
