Create a bootable USB flash drive

Any USB flash drive can be used, as long as it has a good storage capacity, which is at least 8 GB (12GB or above recommended) for Ubuntu Linux.

  Warning

This operation will erase all data from your USB flash drive, so make sure to save your data before creating the bootable key!

  1. Plug the USB flash drive into the computer.

      Warning

Be sure that no other storage device than the one needed is plugged in (external hard drive, other USB stick, etc.).

  2. Launch balenaEtcher.
  3. Click on Flash from file and select the Linux ISO file downloaded previously from WorkSpace.
  4. Click on Select target and select the USB flash drive you want to use.
  5. Click on Flash! to start the flashing process. Your user password may be required to allow balenaEtcher to flash the drive.
  6. The software may ask to grant access to the USB device, so click OK.
  7. The flashing process for a Linux ISO file takes approximately 10 minutes. After processing, you can eject and unplug the USB flash drive.

The next step is to boot from the USB flash drive to install Linux. Go to the next HelpDesk article by clicking Next for more information.

  Info

It is also possible to install Ubuntu Linux from a DVD instead of a USB flash drive. On the developer's website, you will find tutorials for doing this on Windows or macOS. Follow the instructions and for the next step, boot from the DVD instead of the USB device.
