Then, open the corresponding tab, click Enable separation, and select the Method corresponding to your production.

Multilayer Printing

Durst P5X printers support multilayer printing with up to five layers in a single pass (Color / White / Black / White / Color). This enables printing two separate images in one job, separated by a blockout layer:

In CalderaRIP, multilayer printing is controlled through Spot Inks. The order of activated spot inks determines their position relative to the color layer:

  • The first activated spot ink is printed under the color layer.
  • The second activated spot ink is printed over the color layer.

To print white under and over the color layer, create two spot channels named, for example, "White Under" and "White Over," and assign them accordingly. The steps are detailed below:

Configuration

  1. Open CalderaRIP.
  2. In the Application Bar, select the Settings tab and double-click the ServerAdmin icon.
  3. Select the printer driver and click "Configure...".
  4. Open the Special Inks tab.
  5. Rename the spot inks according to the required layer order:
    • First spot ink: Printed under the color layer, "White Under".
    • Second spot ink: Printed over the color layer, "White Over".
  6. Click OK and then Proceed to confirm the configuration.
  7. Enter the CalderaRIP administration password when prompted.
  8. (Optional) If the printer driver is currently running, restart it when requested.

Printing

  1. Open the printer driver and select the required printing parameters.
  2. RIP the top layer file, which must contain CMYK (or CMYKcm) and the two configured spot channels (for example "White Under" and "White Over").
  3. Prepare the bottom layer file using the same parameters. Mirror the file and ensure it contains CMYK (or CMYKcm) only, with no spot colors.

  Warning

Make sure the spot channels in the artwork match the names defined in the Special Inks configuration. Otherwise, the multilayer order will not be applied correctly.
