Canon Colorado XL Series - Spot Inks and Multilayer

The Colorado XL Series can use white and gloss as spot inks, in combination with certain resolutions.

  Warning

White and gloss spot inks are optional on these printers, so they are unlocked in the printer controller. However, your Canon's controller must have a license that allows you to use these Spot Inks, as well as the multilayer and special resolutions. Contact Canon for more information.

General Setup for Spot Colors

  • Choose a white or gloss compatible resolution.
  • Go to the Page Setup:

      Info

For more details on the general management of spot colors in CalderaRIP, please take a look at this dedicated article.

Multilayer

These roll-to-roll printers use a controller and support simple multilayer jobs with white under the dedicated tab of Page Setup.

Layers are submitted one at a time per job. The printer’s controller manages printing by processing the job layer by layer.

Printing White + Multilayer

  • Select a valid resolution.

      Info

White resolutions can be used directly from CalderaRIP’s interface with up to 3 layers.

  • In Page Setup > White tab, choose how to use the white ink and the layer setup. By default, a layering method is preselected ("White underflood", "White overflood", etc.):

    Example of a similar model
    • If needed, select "Custom" to configure each layer separately. Note that:

      • For layers 1 to 3, you can choose a method for each layer.
      • Layer 1 is the bottom layer.
      • A single image is used for all layers.

        Good to know

To achieve a true multilayer, with different images on each layer and up to 5 layers depending on the resolution, Canon's PRISMAGuide XL must be used combined with Caldera's Nexio option. Learn more.
