Improve consistent automated nesting results in PrimeCenter recipes

If the same files produce different layout results in an automated workflow, the nesting engine may not have enough time to complete its calculation consistently. This is more likely with complex nests or when files are processed through a network-based hotfolder.

Symptoms

You may notice one or more of the following:

  • The same files produce different nesting results across repeated runs.
  • Items are distributed differently across sheets, even when the recipe has not changed.
  • You need to rerun the layout several times before getting the expected result.

Cause

This behavior can happen when the Nesting Duration is too short for the files being processed. A network-shared hotfolder can also introduce delays or inconsistent behavior during automation.

Resolution

  1. Open the recipe settings.
  2. Go to Layout.
  3. Open Layout and Editing Tools.
  4. Select Nesting.
  5. Increase Nesting Duration from the default value to 60 seconds.
  6. Test the workflow again with the same files.
  7. If the issue continues, increase Nesting Duration to 120 seconds and test again.
  8. If results are still inconsistent, move the hotfolder from a network share to a local folder and run the same test again.

Additional notes

Short nesting times can cause the automation to finalize different valid layouts before the calculation has fully stabilized. Allowing more time can improve repeatability for the same input files.

If your workflow currently uses a network-shared hotfolder, testing with a local hotfolder is recommended to rule out file access or timing delays.
