Print-and-cut dimension mismatch when cut custom margins are active

An intermittent issue may cause printed output and cut dimensions to be inconsistent when cut custom margins are active. This was caused by inconsistent handling of the cutter tool window setting between the selected cutter and the selected preset / print configuration. The issue was fixed in Caldera 19.0.2 and newer.

Symptoms

• Printed output dimensions do not match the expected cut result.
• The cut path does not align with the printed job.
• The issue may appear intermittently.
• Reopening and reprinting the same job may generate the correct dimensions.
• The issue is more likely when cut custom margins are enabled.

Cause

The issue was related to how the cutter tool window configuration was stored and restored.

Behavior had changed over time between two approaches:

• linking the cutter tool window to the cutter
• linking the cutter tool window to the preset / print configuration

Because no single model had been clearly enforced, the implementation could behave inconsistently between those two approaches. This could lead to unexpected print-and-cut dimension mismatches, especially when cut custom margins were active.

After discussion with Product Management, the intended behavior was defined as follows:

• The cutter tool window setting is saved within the print configuration / preset.
• Changing from one preset to another, even when using the same cutter, updates the cutter tool window according to the value saved in that preset.
• Changing from one cutter to another resets the cutter tool window to its default value, because the previous value only applies to the previously selected cutter.
• If the preset is restored, both the cutter and the cutter tool window are restored with it.

Resolution

Upgrade to Caldera 19.0.2 or newer.

If needed, also:

1. Reopen the affected job.
2. Reprint the job.
3. Verify that the regenerated output uses the correct dimensions.
4. If the issue persists after upgrading, collect the original input file and generated output files.
5. Send the files to support for further investigation.
