If a print job processes normally in Caldera but fails when data is sent to the printer, the issue may be related to network communication.
Symptoms
- The job waits for some time and then fails before printing starts.
- Caldera shows an error such as
FAILED_TO_RUN_ENGINE_SPC(FAILED_TO_SEND_LINE_TO_DRIVER). - An error such as
Unrecognized termination condition found in status sent by the printerappears when the job should begin sending.
Cause
This behavior can be caused by unstable or interrupted network communication between Caldera and the printer. In the reported case, changing the printer's Ethernet cable resolved the problem.
Resolution
- Verify network communication. Confirm that the printer is connected by Ethernet and is reachable from the Caldera workstation.
- Check when the failure occurs. If the file RIPs successfully but fails only when Caldera starts sending data, focus on the connection between the RIP workstation and the printer.
- Inspect the physical connection. Check the Ethernet cable and link status on the printer and network equipment.
- Replace the network cable. Use a known-good cable and retry the job.
- Test printing again. After the connection is restored, resend the job.
- If needed, continue network checks. Review the switch port, printer network settings, and any intermediate network hardware if the problem continues.
Additional notes
If the error appears only at the send stage, a network issue is more likely than a file-processing issue.
Applicable to Caldera DTF RIP version 1.x and 2.x
