Printer tab

  Info

The three drivers ending in -ML have fewer options than the ones you will see below.

  • Check roll/media width: a warning is shown if the media width is smaller than the printed document.
  • Cut media after print: it enables the embedded cutter and automatically cuts the job after the print.
  • Media settings: Choose between using the media settings from the printer panel or from CalderaRIP (EasyMedia).
  • Multipass layers order. Select the order of the layers. Options are:
  CMYKGLW driver:  CMYKWW driver:

  • White -> CMYK -> Varnish
  • Varnish -> CMYK -> White
  • White -> CMYK
  • Varnish -> CMYK
  • No CMYK pass (multipass only): Disable CMYK ink and print your job only with White, Matte, or Glossy Varnish.
  • White overprint: Increase White density with up to 7 passes.
  • White quality: Affect the number of passes for White separate layers. Choose between standard or high white (only with the CMYKWW driver).
  • White layers number: Print up to 7 layers of White ink.
  • Unidirectional white printing: Print White separate layers with unidirectional carriage movement.
  • Rewind after print: rewinds the media to its initial position after printing.

Advanced parameters

  • Dot Size: if not Automatic, the drop size is forced to use Small, Medium or Large drops.
  • IP config…: Open the IP Configuration window. Useful if you want to reset the printer's IP configuration.
  • Reset: This Reset button allows you to come back to the original (default) options. Advanced ones are also concerned by this action.

Only on the CMYKGLW driver

  • Matte varnish overprint: Increase Matte varnish density with up to 7 passes.
  • Matte varnish layers number: Print up to 7 layers of Matte varnish ink.
  • Glossy varnish overprint: Increase Glossy varnish density with up to 7 passes.
  • Glossy varnish layers number: Print up to 20 layers of Glossy varnish ink.
  • Unidirectional matte varnish printing: Check this box to print Matte varnish in separate layers with unidirectional carriage movement.
  • Unidirectional glossy varnish printing: Check this box to print Glossy varnish in separate layers with unidirectional carriage movement.

Only on the -ML drivers

  • Show job name on printer panel: if enabled, it displays the job name on the printer panel screen. When disabled, the printer panel shows the current print mode.
  • Don't check printer inks: doesn't display a warning if the printer inks do not match the selected print mode. When disabled, a warning is shown when a required ink is missing in the printer.
  • Ink type: Choose between ECO-UV, ECO-UVS, ECO-UV3, or ECO-UV4.

Media tab

  Info

The three drivers ending in -ML have fewer options than the ones you will see below.

  • Information: at the top of the window, you are able to see information about your media. There you have access to two actions:
    • Save: when you click on this button, the current media settings are saved to the selected media profile (printer, media, resolution, mode) so there will be applied for any new job using the same print configuration. If you don't save, the changes you made are only applied to the current job.
    • Reload: will revert back to default as set during profiling or the last saved changes.
  • Horizontal compensation (%): we recommend not to modify this. Any deviation is likely to be mechanical on the printer's side.
  • Vertical compensation (%): this can be useful if you detect an increase or decrease in the length due to heating or media tension which is common when printing on vinyl or textiles for example. To calculate the compensation, click Compute and follow the software’s instructions.

  • Head height: Adjust the gap between the head and the plate by selecting one of the following parameters:
    • Low
    • Middle
    • High
  • Vacuum power: You can change the vacuum power, from normal to strong, to improve media flatness.
  • Calibration value: Type a value between - 5.00 and +5.00 (or use the + and - buttons) to adjust the feed quantity per pass.
  • Drying time (s): duration allowed to the drying after the print (in seconds).
  • Space between jobs: space is expressed in centimeters.
  • Cutter friendly: indicates if the media supports cutting or not. It is a safeguard in case the printer parameter Cut media after print is enabled for a media that is not compatible. In order to cut the media, both options must be enabled.

Advanced parameters

  • Overprint: this performs additional passes to increase ink density. The user can define the number of overprint layers with a factor between 1 and 7.
  • Scan Speed: Type a value between 0 and 1 000 (or use the + and - buttons) to define the scan speed.
  • Feed Speed: Type a value between 0 and 50 (or use the + and - buttons) to define the feed speed.
  • Scan interval (s): specifies the minimum time to pause the head movement between passes (slows down the print and improves drying).
  • Cleaning while printing: performing cleaning during printing, indicate the degree of cleaning to perform (panel, off, light, normal, or strong). It can remove potential clogging or condensation on the head during print.
  • Cleaning Interval (s): Time interval of Cleaning while printing (from 0 to 60000 seconds).
  • Cleaning power: Select the cleaning power between Wiping, Light, Normal, or Medium.
  • Force dot size (white / varnish only): These options are disabled by default but, if necessary, it is possible to force the dot between size 1 (default) and 8.
  • Vardot level Small (%): The default value is around 80 %. If on linearizations you encounter density drop or discontinuities at middle densities, you can decrease this value to fix the issue. On the other hand, increasing the value reduces graininess.
  • Vardot level Med (%): The default value is around 70%. If on linearizations you encounter density drop or discontinuities at middle densities, you can decrease this value to fix the issue. On the other hand, increasing the value reduces graininess.

Media: Override tab (only on -ML drivers)

  Warning

The following settings affect the definition of the print mode, so any changes should be made only by experienced operators.

Roland-LEJ640 - Printer settings - Media override.png

  • Scan Speed: Scan speed can only be reduced by specifying the amount in % (in steps of 10% and until 20%). The value 100% corresponds to the predefined value of the selected print mode.
  • Feed Speed: 10%-100% by 10% steps. Allows you to reduce the feed speed relative to the print mode.
  • Lamps position and control: You can choose whether to turn on or not the two lamps of the printer, as well as their position.
  • Passmask pattern: This defines the RIPC (Roland Intelligent Pass Control) pass mask pattern. If the default value is not satisfactory, the correct value should be determined by comparing prints using different values. The value Off disables the RIPC feature.
  • Passmask overlap: This parameter overrides RIPC (Roland Intelligent Pass Control) pass overlap.
  • Dot type override: Allows to force specific dot type. Dot type defines the size of ink droplets. Giving a value not supported by a print mode could generate printer data errors.
  • Vardot L/M factor: factor between Large and Medium dots.
  • Vardot L/S factor: factor between Large and Small dots.
  • Vardot max S: maximum percentage of Small dots.
  • Vardot max M: maximum percentage of Medium dots.
  • Fixdot level: choice of the fixdot level between Small, Medium or Large.

Comments tab

On this tab you can see comments coming from the EasyMedia module. It can include comments from the global media window and from the profile project window.

Status tab

Roland-LEJ640 - Printer settings - Status.png

  • Status: global state of the printer:
    • Ready
    • Not available
    • Printing

All data is coming from the printer, if it is not available, nothing can be displayed.

  • Inks: information about the ink configuration and the inks levels in %.
  • Media: information about the media loaded on the printer.
  • Misc: complementary info about the printer (model, serial number, firmware version).
  • Refresh: button to refresh the tab.
