How to manage devices?

Two types of devices are supported:

Devices are managed in Settings > Devices & Presets. From this tab, you can create/edit/delete devices, presets, and media.

Create a new device

  1. Go to Settings > Devices & Presets.
  2. Click on   to add a new device.
  3. Configure a device.

 

Edit a device

  1. Go to Settings > Devices & Presets tab.
  2. Hover over a device in the list. Click   to Edit.
  3. Configure a device.

After you configure and save a device in your list, some settings are not editable: Manufacturer, Model and Driver.

Model

According to the manufacturer you have selected, select your printer/spectrophotometer model.

 

Driver

This part displays the driver version.

 

Peripherals configuration

The options you will see depend on each model. For more details on these model-specific parameters, please refer to the articles dedicated to the printer driver here.

 

Inkset peripheral

CustomInkset

The driver includes a default inkset, representing the printer’s minimum supported ink configuration. 

If your license allows it, you can customize this inkset by adding, removing, or rearranging inks across channels to create a configuration that matches your setup. Click Edit to open the Ink Channel Configuration wizard.

 

Ink Channel Configuration

Available in Caldera Direct-to-Film RIP v2.3 and later.

The Ink Channel Configuration window allows you to define and verify the mapping between software-defined ink channels and the physical printhead configuration:

  • Channel Mapping: Add, remove, or drag inks to match the order of the printer’s physical ink channels. Up to 13 ink slots can be configured. Each slot represents a numbered position and displays the assigned ink with a colored drop and label (for example, C, M, Y, K).
  • Ink Order Check: A verification pattern can be printed to confirm that the configured ink order matches the actual printer output. The panel on the right shows the currently selected:

    Printing a test target requires an existing device with a preset.

    • Printer
    • Media
    • Preset 
    • Print test target: Once your device is set up, click this button to generate the ink order check pattern using the active configuration.
  • Actions:
    • Save: Apply the current ink channel configuration.
    • Cancel: Close the window without saving changes.

 

Possible Error Message

  • Ink mismatch: Displays a warning if the inks defined in the preset do not match the current ink configuration. The message specifies the missing slots and indicates which inks will be used to print the verification pattern.

 

Name

Give your device a name to easily identify it in the list or use the button   to generate an automatic name.

Find and filter devices

Search

The search bar allows you to find a device by typing its name or its manufacturer.

 

Filter

The search bar allows you to filter devices per type (printer or spectrophotometer).

 

Sort

You can sort devices in ascending or descending order by clicking on the arrows  .

 

Import/Export devices

This feature is available for printers only. This allows you to save the configuration of your device and its associated presets.

The backup file for a printer is a TGZ file that contains:

  • One or several printer configurations.
  • Their associated presets.
  • The associated media.

 

Go to Settings > Devices & Presets.

Export one printer

Hover over a printer in the list. Click   then Export_Jobs.svg Export.

 

Export several printers

Hover over a device in the list. A check box will appear. Select all devices you want to export, then click on Export_Jobs.svg. All selected devices will be saved in a single backup file.

 

Import a backup file for a printer

Click on Import_Jobs.svg to import a backup file.

  • If a media does not exist in the software, it will be created automatically.
  • If an imported printer configuration has the same name as an existing printer in the software, it is automatically renamed so as not to overwrite the existing one.
  • If the output folder path of an imported printer configuration does not exist, an error will occur during printing. Remember to check it and change it if necessary.

 

Delete a device

Delete one device

Hover over a device in the list. Click   then click on  Delete.

 

Delete several devices

  1. Hover the cursor over the device icon and select it.
  2. Or, click on the "Select all" option that appears above the list.
  3. Click .
