EasyMedia - Total Ink Limit

The Total Ink Limit (TIL) is the maximum amount of ink that can be deposited on the media while avoiding these defects:

  • Adhesion
  • Bi-directional
  • Bleeding
  • Coalescence
  • Cracking
  • Drying
  • Gloss banding
  • Matte effect
  • 3D texture

To determine the total ink limit, an ink limit chart is printed. The chart contains patches of a mixture of the various inks being able to go up to 400% in CMYK.

Good to know

The "Ink Clipping" option helps prevent unwanted bleed before printing a test pattern, functioning similarly in transitions, linear applications, and ink limits.
This option is particularly useful if you know that you cannot deposit a large amount of ink on your media. By setting a smaller global ink limit, you can effectively avoid dirtying your printer.

Visually, from the defects found on the test chart, the inking limit can be fixed.
