Misc GenericPRT2

Supported models

Caldera has developed generic drivers to target printers with Windows-based controllers and widely used electronics to drive printheads.

They are generic in the sense that the driver is compatible with a given printhead electronics but needs to be configured properly to work (paper sizes, print resolutions, custom ink sets, etc.).

Drivers

  • GenericPRT2-Large
  • GenericPRT2
  • GenericPRT2-DTF

Driver History

  • CalderaRIP V17.3
    • All drivers: A new "No lines order inversion" checkbox was added to the Printer tab of the Printer settings. Enabling this setting prevents the driver from generating the data in reversed order (which speeds up the RIP process, especially in remote environments).
  • CalderaRIP V17.2
    • A variant of the driver called Misc-GenericPRT2-DTF has been developed specifically for DTF printers.
  • CalderaRIP V16.3
    • GenericPRT2: It is now possible to generate a mirrored BMP thumbnail
  • CalderaRIP V13.10
    • GenericPRT2-Large supported since this version. This is a Large variant of the driver, limited in size for a lower price
  • CalderaRIP V9.20
    • GenericPRT2 supported since this version

Print Module Interface

Resolutions

Supported number of drop sizes:

  • 1 (1 bit)
  • 3 (2 bits)

By default, you have some 1 and 3 drop size resolutions preconfigured:

XxY Binary or XxY ZDrops

  • X = X resolution in dpi
  • Y = Y resolution in dpi
  • Z = Number of drops.

For example:

  • 360x720 3Drops = 360x720 dpi, 3 Drop sizes (2 bits)
  • 720x1440 Binary = 720x1440 dpi, 1 Drop sizes (1 bit)

You can configure them in ServerAdmin Print resolutions (click here to watch the video)

Modes

Any combination of inks can be added via CustomInkset option.

Qualities

Quality (x Pass) can be chosen but can not be configured and all might not be supported by the printer itself.

  • Auto-select
  • 1 to 32 passes

Printer settings

Printer tab

Misc GenericPRT2 - Printer settings - Printer tab.png

  • Header signature depends on the file format, if 0x5555 does not work, modify it and try to print a new file
  • Depth Encoding depends on the electronic
    • 1 2 4: value = Number of Bits Per Pixel
    • 0 1 2: value = Number of Bits Per Pixel - 1
  • Option Reserved for internal use, do not modify unless someone from Caldera support asks you to do so
  • Generate a BMP thumbnail: By activating this box, a thumbnail in BMP file format can be generated
  • Mirror the thumbnail.
  • No lines order inversion: Enabling this setting prevents the driver from generating the data in reversed order (which speeds up the RIP process, especially in remote environments).

Media tab

  • Information: at the top of the window, you are able to see information about your media. There you have access to two actions:
    • Save: when you click on this button, the current media settings are saved to the selected media profile (printer, media, resolution, mode) so there will be applied for any new job using the same print configuration. If you don't save, the changes you made are only applied to the current job.
    • Reload: will revert back to default as set during profiling or the last saved changes.
  • Horizontal compensation (%): we recommend not to modify this. Any deviation is likely to be mechanical on the printer's side.
  • Vertical compensation (%): this can be useful if you detect an increase or decrease in the length due to heating or media tension which is common when printing on vinyl or textiles for example. To calculate the compensation, click Compute and follow the software’s instructions.

  • Customize screening parameters: enable this feature if you want to limit the maximum percentage and/or mixture of the 3 sizes of dots. By default, this function is disabled, which means that CalderaRIP is already using the best variable droplet mixture for printing. If you feel comfortable and you need to build a new media profile, you can turn this feature on to choose a different droplet mixture and change the printed colors:
    • Max % of drop #1: from 0 to 100% (Default=90%)
    • Max % of drop #2: from 0 to 100% (Default=90%)
    • Max % of drop #3: from 0 to 100% (Default=100%)

Comments tab

On this tab you can see comments coming from the EasyMedia module. It can include comments from the global media window and from the profile project window.

Inks tab

  • Enable Ink reordering: if you see that the color channels of your printer seem mixed up, you can enable the ink reordering. For each channel, specify the right color.
