Multilayer in CalderaRIP - Layers Arrangement

Available from CalderaRIP V19.2 for compatible printer drivers. Available layer types, settings, and Page Setup options vary by printer driver and driver version. Refer to your printer's technical documentation for driver-specific information.

The Layers arrangement workflow lets you build a multilayer print job by adding individual layers, assigning images, and configuring the print settings for each layer. You can then save the arrangement for reuse.

Unlike the legacy multilayer manager, the redesigned workflow uses a flat list of individual layers. When you add a saved arrangement, its layers are added individually to the current arrangement.

Open the Layers arrangement

1. Double-click the printer icon to open the Print Module.
2. In the multilayer area at the bottom of the Print Module, click the ellipsis button (...):
   
3. The Layers arrangement window opens.

Add layers

To create a multilayer job, add the layers required by your printing workflow:

1. In Layers arrangement, select the layer type that you want to add.
2. Click Add.
3. Repeat these steps until the arrangement contains all required layers.

Considerations

• Layer names are assigned automatically according to the nomenclature recommended by the printer manufacturer. If needed, click the pencil icon in Layers arrangement to rename a layer manually.
• Layers appear in the list in the order in which you add them. To change their printing order, manually move the layers in the upper diagram of the Layers arrangement window.

• In the Settings tab, use Bottom layer first in the list to choose how the layer stack is displayed:

  • When enabled, the media and the first printed layer are displayed at the top of the list.
  • When disabled, the media and the first printed layer are displayed at the bottom of the list.

  This setting changes the display only; it does not change the printing order.

• If you need the same layer type more than once, add it again. There is no option to duplicate a layer.

Add a saved layer arrangement

You can add a previously saved layer arrangement to the Print Module:

1. In the multilayer area of the Print Module, click the ellipsis button (...) to open Layers arrangement.
2. Select Configuration, then choose the saved arrangement that you want to add.
3. Click Add.
4. Close the Layers arrangement window.
    

The saved layer arrangement is added to the Print Module. Its layers are then available individually in the Layers arrangement window.

If the Print Module already contains layers, the layers from the saved arrangement are added to the existing list. You can then review and adjust their print order in Layers arrangement.

Configure a layer

Select a layer in the Print Module, then configure its available print settings. The available settings depend on the layer type and your printer driver.

As changes apply only to the currently selected layer, repeat the process for each layer in the arrangement:

On compatible drivers, adding a spot-ink layer automatically enables Enable Separation and selects the Auto separation method in Page Setup:

Assign images to layers

By default, the Layers arrangement workflow lets you assign a different image to each layer. To do this, select each layer and add its corresponding image as described below.

If you want to use the same image on every layer, you can simplify the workflow by enabling Set image to all layers on drop in the Settings tab of Layers arrangement.

Use different images on each layer

1. Select a layer in the Print Module.
2. Drag the corresponding image into the Print Module.
3. Repeat these steps for every layer in the arrangement.

Use the same image on all layers

To assign the same image to every layer, enable Set image to all layers on drop:

1. Open Layers arrangement.
2. In the Settings tab, enable Set image to all layers on drop.
3. Close the Layers arrangement window.
4. Drag the image into the Print Module.

The image is assigned to every layer in the arrangement.

Save the arrangement

Once the required layers are in place, save the arrangement to reuse it later:

1. In the Print Module, click the Save arrangement icon.
2. Enter a name for the arrangement.
3. Confirm to save it.

You can load the saved arrangement for future multilayer jobs, then adjust its layers or settings as needed.

Print and monitor the job

Once every layer has an image and the required print settings, you can send the multilayer job to print.

1. Verify that every layer has an image and the required print settings.
2. Click Print in the Print Module.
3. Open the Spooler to monitor the multilayer job.

In Spooler, you can view the layer currently being processed and use the layer navigation controls to review the details of the job's layers:

Limitations

• The available layer types and settings depend on the printer driver.
• Page Setup options can vary according to the printer driver and driver version. Depending on the supported workflow, some options may be available, disabled, or unavailable for multilayer jobs.
• Step & Repeat is not supported for multilayer printing.
• A multilayer job cannot be printed if one or more layers do not contain an image.
