How to prepare a banner with PrimeCenter?

Banners come in various types depending on their intended use. For more details, see this article. PrimeCenter provides several tools to help you create banners efficiently. This article explains how to create a banner with grommets and a hem, following the scheme below:

The process uses automatic mode, where a list of check/fix profiles is applied to an input file. While this method is the most convenient, the profiles can also be applied manually if needed.

For information on creating double-sided banners, see this article.

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you are familiar with the following topics:

To see the complete list of check/fix profiles: List of check/list profiles included in PrimeCenter.

  Warning

  • The order in which check/fix profiles are applied affects the final result.
  • For example, applying a bleed before or after grommets will change the offset size.

Process

1. Add grommets

The first step is to add grommets to the banner using the “Place Grommets” check/fix profile.
For more details on configuring this profile, see this guide.

Prior to V4.0 1 Starting from V4.0
  1. In the recipe configuration panel, go to the Files tab and open Import settings.
  2. Under Tools, click   to open the tool list.
  3. Select Input check/fix profile to apply profiles automatically during file import.
  4. From the list of check/fix profiles, search for "Place Grommets".
  5. Configure parameters as needed.

2. Add a bleed

To prevent unwanted white edges, we need to add a bleed around the image, just as with cut contours.

There are two ways to do this:

  • Using the standard Print Bleed.
  • Applying the “Advanced Bleed” check/fix profile.

In automatic mode, check/fix profiles are applied before the Print Bleed module settings. Since we need flexibility in the bleed’s placement, we will use “Advanced Bleed” instead.

  1. In the Input check/fix profile list, search for and select “Advanced Bleed”.
  2. Place it second in the list (after “Place Grommets”).
  3. Configure parameters as needed.

3. Add a hemline

A hemline serves as a visual guide for folding the banner.

  1. In the Input check/fix profile list, search for and select “Place Lines”.
  2. Place it third in the list (after “Advanced Bleed”).
  3. Configure parameters as needed.
    • Since a bleed was applied earlier, include it in the offset calculation.
    • To create a dotted line, set the Pattern parameter to Spaced.

4. Define the hem size

Finally, we will add a white area for the hem. This is the size of the area we want to cut, so we will create a cut contour. We will apply a last check/fix profile.

  1. In the Input check/fix profile module Input check-fix profile.png, search and select "Create contour from PDFbox". Leave it at the fourth position in the list.
  2. Select the PDF box that will be the reference for placing the cut contour. Give the cut contour a name that will be recognized by your cutter.
  3. Other parameters are up to you, but remember that the measurements you enter must be calculated from the selected PDF box.
