How to automatically back up CalderaRIP?

This article explains step by step how to make an automatic backup of the most important files for your production with CalderaRIP. As you probably read in the overview article, an automatic backup requires two CalderaDock Modules/Utilities.

Caldera SnapShots

What is saved?

  • Printer drivers (the .calpatch files, but not the presets/PrintConfigs)
  • Profiles (the EasyMedia setup, but not the presets/PrintConfigs)

Where is it done?

In the Caldera Snapshots application, available in the corresponding tab of our toolbox, CalderaDock.

  Info

You can get CalderaDock's latest version from WorkSpace's dashboard. If you have any problem with the installation of CalderaDock, click here.

How to save it?

  1. Launch CalderaSnapshots via CalderaDock. You can access the application through the Home or Applications tab.
    Caldera Snapshots - Open.png
  2. Select your product and click on the add icon ( ). You will be asked to enter your computer password:
    Caldera Snapshots - Create.png
  3. The application will now create the Snapshot. During creation, the actions of other snapshots are disabled.

     Caution

Please don't exit Caldera Snapshots during this process, as the snapshot will be damaged.
If you exit the application before the saving is done, you might still see the snapshot available on the list. We recommend that you delete it and restart the process.

Save/Restore Config

  Warning

This tool is not recommended for macOS users, as the security settings of this operating system do not allow the app to function properly.
All printer and cutter names must match exactly between the old and new systems, otherwise, the script will not find the correct printer/cutter to restore the configuration. In this case, you will have to manually recreate any HotFolders and workflows you may have on the new computer.

What is saved?

  • Presets (QuickConfigs)
  • Workflows
  • Printer-specific configuration

      Info

It does not include the media profiles. If you require them, create a media patch with the steps described in the dedicated article.

  • Input profiles
  • Caldera settings, located in the hidden .cas configuration folder

Where is it done?

In the Caldera Save/Restore Config application, available in the corresponding tab of our toolbox, CalderaDock.
