Printer tab
Multilayer Style
Available since V19, this menu allows you to choose between the "Legacy" multilayer method, which displays the old multilayer options in the same window, and the new method ("Generic"), which does not show options in the Printer Settings. Instead, you must use CalderaRIP's Multilayer Manager.
To learn about the new method for managing multilayer jobs, please refer to the dedicated articles:
- CalderaRIP's Multilayer Manager (general article)

Info
The model of this printer designated for America (S9170) supports printing in 1 or 2 layers only. In contrast, models available in other countries allow for printing in 1 to 3 layers.
Top layer options
-
Top layer: Determines the content of the top layer (the one above, considering the media as the bottom element):
- None: Unused layer (e.g. for a quality with only one layer).
- Colors: The layer will contain only color data and no white.
- White: The layer will contain only data from White's plank.
-
Top layer operation. Symmetry operation of this layer. Options are:
- None.
- Mirrored vertical: Mirror on the vertical axis.
- Mirrored horizontal: Mirror on the horizontal axis.
- Mirrored horizontal and vertical: Mirror on the horizontal and vertical axis.
Normal layer options
-
Normal layer: Determines the content of the intermediate layer or the single printed layer:
-
Colors+: This layer usually contains only color data but is also flexible. It automatically adds a correctly positioned White layer (above or below, depending on quality) if there is only one defined position or if White is printed on the same layer.
For more info, please refer to Print Module Interface > Qualities. - White: The layer will contain only data from White's plank.

Bottom layer options

Bottom layer: Determines the content of the bottom layer (the one closest to the media, considering the media as the bottom element). Theoretically, this is the one that will be printed first. Options are:
- None: Unused layer (e.g. for a quality with only one layer).

Only for EPSON Precision Dot modes
- Text sharpness: Increases the thinness of the edges, especially effective for small white characters on a black background.
Advanced parameters
-
Job management via status. Uses information returned by the printer for
media size, and print-end detection.
- EPSON Precision Dot threads: Specifies the number of processes in parallel that compute EPSON screening. It takes a trial-and-error approach to find the right value.
Media tab
-
Information: at the top of the window, you are able to see information about your media. There you have access to two actions:
- Save: when you click on this button, the current media settings are saved to the selected media profile (printer, media, resolution, mode) so there will be applied for any new job using the same print configuration. If you don't save, the changes you made are only applied to the current job.
- Reload: will revert back to default as set during profiling or the last saved changes.
- Horizontal compensation (%): we recommend not to modify this. Any deviation is likely to be mechanical on the printer's side.
- Vertical compensation (%): this can be useful if you detect an increase or decrease in the length due to heating or media tension which is common when printing on vinyl or textiles for example. To calculate the compensation, click Compute and follow the software’s instructions.
-
Material. Choice of media type. Options are:
- Adhesive Vinyl
- Banner
- Film Backlit
- Film Frontlit
- Canvas
- Textile
- Paper/Others
- Slot: For choosing a media configuration on the printer. Be careful to match the media in the CalderaRIP and the one on the printer to get a quality print.
Advanced parameters:
- Ink Density Factor: The percentage used by EPSON screening. Refer to an EPSON test pattern to determine the ideal value for the media used.
- Ink Density Factor White: Percentage used for "White" ink by EPSON screening. Refer to an EPSON test pattern to determine the ideal value for the media used.
Comments tab
On this tab you can see comments coming from the EasyMedia module. It can include comments from the global media window and from the profile project window.
Status tab
-
Status: global state of the printer:
- Ready
- Not available
- Printing
All data is coming from the printer, if it is not available, nothing can be displayed.
- Inks: information about the ink configuration and the inks levels in %.
Info
The values returned for ink consumption will also include the ink consumed to ensure optimum print quality, so even if the print job contains no Orange it's normal to see minimal Orange ink consumption.
- Heaters: temperature level of the Preheater, the Printheater and the Postheater.
- Media: information about the media loaded on the printer.
- Misc: complementary info about the printer (model, serial number, firmware version).
- Refresh: button to refresh the tab.
