How to update CalderaRIP?

For historical reference only. This applies to CalderaRIP versions before 18. Please note that the software update process has changed significantly in recent years and now takes place entirely through the CalderaDock toolbox. Learn more.

This article outlines the step-by-step instructions for updating the CalderaRIP software for an existing installation. Keep reading the full guide or watch the following video for a visual walkthrough.

Considerations

  • Historically, software update files were provided as large build patches, typically ranging from 4 to 5GB, which could be downloaded from WorkSpace. Beginning with CalderaRIP V13, the use of large calpatch upgrades has been discontinued.
  • Currently, only installation files (ISO for Linux or DMG for macOS) for the latest product versions are available in CalderaDock and WorkSpace. For upgrade files related to earlier versions, please reach out to support.
  • If you want to install CalderaRIP for the first time on a computer or update the software to the latest version, always use the default installation package.
  • Overwriting an existing installation with the default installation package will preserve your configuration while updating only the core software files, eliminating the risk of needing to redo your settings.

Steps to Update CalderaRIP

  1. Download the Installation Package: The installation packages are available in the Applications tab of CalderaDock (assuming you already have a valid license activated) or in WorkSpace > Other downloads.
  2. Use the Downloaded DMG/ISO:

    • macOS: Double-click the DMG file to mount it and initiate the installation process. Upon the first start after installation, select "Keep my settings" to maintain existing configurations (e.g., Quickprints, media profiles).
    • Linux: Mount the ISO file using Caldera's Mount Tool before following the installation wizard.
  3. Overwrite Existing Installation: If you are updating CalderaRIP for the first time or upgrading, always use the default installation package. This will preserve your configuration while updating only the core software files, eliminating the risk of needing to redo your settings.
  4. Reattach the license. The license may need to be reattached after an update via CalderaDock:

Reattach does not apply in your case if...
    • You are using CalderaRIP on a virtual machine with a software-based license. Learn more.
    • Or, you are updating to an older version (e.g., from V7 to V11), as the licensing processes differ. Please refer to the dedicated section if that applies to you.
  5. Post-Update Checks: After completing the version update, check for more recent printer drivers. Any driver with a revision (A/B/C/D, etc.) is more recent than what the version update or disk image installs.
