HP Latex 700 / 800 (W) - Limitations and workarounds

This article reviews some of the limitations you may encounter while using your HP Latex 700 / 800 (W) with CalderaRIP, as well as the workarounds we have at your disposal.

Driver limitations

All drivers

  Limitation Workaround
macOS 11 (Big Sur) Not supported Upgrade macOS or change to Linux
Hardware Acceleration Not supported No workaround at the moment
Cost Estimation Not supported  You can configure media and ink costs in the EasyMedia module or the Spooler module, but you will not get feedback from the printer after the printing process
InkPerformer Not fully supported

You can still enable the option. The output will be printed with the proper InkPerformer optimization parameters, however, you will not get any ink saved (%) value in the Spooler module.

You must compare the ink (%) saved per job type using the HP Webserver report and do the computation manually

Only W drivers

The following features are not available with multilayer printing but can be used with CMYK or CMYKW modes.

Printer limitations

Be aware that, by decision of the manufacturer, these printers do not support the following settings, even though they are usually found in other Latex models (like the 3xx Series):

  • Media flexibility (Media and Print mode creation on the printer from CalderaRIP).
  • Dual Side roll workflow.
  • Cut the paper.  This feature is not available in CalderaRIP directly but it can be enabled/disabled on the printer.
  • Media width and type check. Not supported, as the printer has an internal Spooler. You can use this function directly on the front panel of the printer (it will pause the job and ask you to change the loaded media).
  • Job reordering. Not supported, as the printer has an internal Spooler. You can most likely use this function directly on the front panel of the printer.
  • Job consumption prediction.
  • Continuous printing. Similar behavior can be achieved with the setting Use printer status disabled (as it is by default).
  • Internal spectrophotometer /calibration. This setting was not implemented in CalderaRIP, but it is supported by the printer.
  • Printing progress percentage. Supported, but the setting Use printer status must be enabled first.
