With CalderaRIP, if you have an input file with a defined spot color and you want to replace it with a custom CMYK value, it is possible, thanks to the Spot Colors interface accessible from the Print module.
Context
- We have an input PDF file that includes a spot color:
- Named GRÜN
- Defined as C:0 M:0 Y:100 K:0
- You can find the PDF file used as an example here.
- We want to replace it with another CMYK value defined as C: 60 M:10 Y:50 K:0.
- Before starting, open CalderaRIP and go to the Spot Colors window, in the Details tab.
Replace a spot color automatically
To replace the spot color named GRÜN with the CMYK values we want, each time it appears in our input files, we have to define it in a spot color library:
- Select the spot color you want to replace, and enter the new CMYK values you want in the output:
- Click on the floppy disk to the right of the CMYK values (
). The CMYK Color library will open.
- Select a library, then click Save:
Result
A spot color named GRÜN with the defined CMYK values has been added to the selected library:
Consequently, each time you import a file with a spot color named GRÜN, CalderaRIP will replace the CMYK values with the ones you have defined in the spot color library, here C: 60 M:10 Y:50 K:0.
Info
In this example, we have selected a dynamic library. This means that dynamic spot colors depend on the printing context (resolution, media, quality, ...), contrary to static libraries, where spot colors are the same for all media/printers/print modes, etc.
Thus, the GRÜN spot color will be replaced only for the print configuration defined in the print module interface.
More information on the CMYK library is in this article.
Replace a spot color manually
If you don't want to replace the spot color named GRÜN automatically, each time it will appear in your input files, you can do it manually when you need it, by mapping it with a spot color defined in a library:
- Select the spot color you want to replace, and open the CMYK Color library:
- Select a library and click New to create a new spot color:
- In our example, we will create a spot color:
- Named GRASGRÜN
- Defined as C: 60 M:10 Y:50 K:0
- Then click Select:
Result
The GRÜN output spot color has been mapped with the GRASGRÜN spot color of the library. CMYK values will be replaced by the ones you have defined:
