Double-sided printing - Combinations

This article explains the available combinations of the Double-sided Printing (DSP) feature, with other CalderaRIP functions, providing a detailed overview of how they work together.

DSP and Compose

Double-sided printing supports the use of templates, and for flatbed printers, it’s recommended to use them. You may be interested in reading: How to create a template with Compose?

Page Setup > Marks tab

All Crop marks, including their thickness, size, and margins, can be used with DSP. However, certain specific settings—Page Number, File Name, Date, and Free Text—are not supported:

If you want to add a Bleed to your Double-sided job, you must select the Canvas mode and Mirror method. Then, click on the Ellipsis button (  ) next to Size, and select Homogeneous values:

Grommets and Color bars can also be used. However, the following functions are not supported with DSP:

  • Trimmers
  • Annotations
  • Optical codes
  • Control strips

Step&Repeat

DSP and Standard Step&Repeat are compatible. However, due to geometrical limitations, Textile and Contour modes are not supported.

Page Setup > Cutting tab

Cutting is compatible with double-sided printing, with some considerations:

  • If available, Mirror options should be configured in the Cutting tab, not in the left panel:
  • Registration marks and Barcodes can be added to jobs, though some cutters may have difficulty reading mirrored barcodes or QR codes.
  • It is recommended to disable "Extra Marks at the Origin" in the Cutter Tools configuration window.

  Warning

Avoid selecting "Enable Automatic Rotation," "Enable Job Reordering," and "Create Independent Rows" (in ServerAdmin > Nest-O-Matik) when using the double-sided printing option, as enabling these settings may lead to inconsistent results:

QuickPrint & Workflows

Selecting a QuickPrint is compatible with Double-sided printing. You can create one QuickPrint for your Sides A and another for Sides B. However, using rotations does not allow QuickPrint or Workflows to be used:

Multilayer

Double-sided printing is not advised for use with multilayer printing.
