🎞️ Caldera Direct-to-Film RIP V2.0 - Changelog

April 2026

Version 2.3.0

New

Adobe PDF Print Engine: Integration of the latest generation of this tool (V7).

  Info

To use this version of Adobe PDF Print Engine your computer's processor must support AVX2 (Advanced Vector Extensions 2) instructions. Learn more.

New

Automation: This version introduces automatic generation of an XML job ticket, named after the input file, for both successful and failed automated jobs when the configured action moves processed jobs to another folder.

  Info

Generation of XML job tickets is only available to Max subscribers. XML is not generated for jobs that are configured to be ignored or deleted.

New

Color Management: Added the final version of the "TextileRGB_FOGRA58" RGB input profile to the global input preferences.

After upgrading the software, both the beta and final profiles remain available to avoid potential production issues. On new installations, only the final profile is included.

New

Destination Module: Added quick access to device, media, and preset settings directly from the Destination Module. Users can open the relevant configuration panel via the    gear icons next to the printer, media, and preset selectors.

  Info

The feature can be enabled or disabled in Global Settings:

New

Devices and Presets

  • A new "Printer Calibration" wizard has been introduced to the software, guiding you through each step of the calibration process (droplet, linearization, ink limit, and ICC profile) to ensure that you can print true and accurate colors in your production.
  • New "Ink Channel Configuration" tool for assigning, reordering, or removing ink slots, accessible from printer configuration via the "Edit" option on the inkset:
Caldera DTFilm RIP V2.3, ink setup.gif
The tool also includes an "Ink Order Check" section that allows printing slot‑identification test charts to verify ink‑to‑slot mapping.

New

Image Module: Added "Start Opacity" and "Stop Transparency" controls in the Image Adjustments section:

Caldera DTFilm RIP V2.3, image module, opacity and transparency adjust.png

These sliders allow operators to rescale per‑image alpha values by defining thresholds for transparency and opacity.

Pixels below the Start Opacity threshold become fully transparent, while pixels above the Stop Transparency threshold become fully opaque. Intermediate values are proportionally rescaled, helping correct images with inaccurate alpha channels and reduce visual artifacts such as white halos.

New
Spot Colors Module: Changes to Lab and Process mapping strategy values are now preserved when switching strategies using the dropdown menu.

Improved
User Experience: Improved image processing performance. Under certain conditions, processing several copies of the same image is now up to twice as fast as in previous versions. Processing files prepared in PrimeCenter is also up to 50% faster.

Removed
OS: Removed Windows 10 support due to upgrading to Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) version 7.

Fixed
Destination Module: With the integration of the latest version of Adobe PDF Print Engine, an issue causing visual artifacts around the choke when processing PDFs with white layers has been fixed.

Fixed

File Manager

  • Fixed an issue where very large PDF files (over 200 inches) could display an incorrect file size or preview due to limitations in the underlying libraries when parsing extreme page dimensions.
Size handling has been improved to the maximum supported limits, and a clearer error message is now shown when the file cannot be opened: “Can not open XXX: it may be corrupted. Use PrimeCenter to fix it automatically or open your preferred designer tool to fix it.”

      Info

You can convert the file to PDF/X in PrimeCenter or design the image at a lower scale and upscale it in Caldera Direct-to-Film RIP.

  • Fixed an issue where links to file paths failed silently when the file was moved, renamed, missing, or blocked by permissions. The software now displays a clear error message when the selected path cannot be accessed and, when possible, provides the original folder path to help locate or restore the file.

Fixed
Image Module: Fixed an issue where invalid inputs did not revert to the last valid value. Input fields now automatically restore the most recent valid value after an error is detected.

Fixed
Studio: Fixed an issue where the media was not automatically resized when inserting an image into the Studio after initializing the software. The media now adjusts to the inserted image whenever a media is selected.

Fixed

User Experience

  • Fixed excessive RAM usage when opening certain AI files. In some cases, the backend could retain a large amount of memory after an image was loaded and removed, potentially leading to instability or software crashes. Memory is now properly released after the image is closed.
  • Fixed an issue where temporary job configurations created during printing were not deleted, causing them to accumulate over time and potentially leading to performance degradation and stability issues.

Printer drivers

New
(Generic) Sunyang

Improved
Epson SureColor G6000: Improved color calibration and expanded the set of available print quality options.

And various minor bug fixes and usability improvements

February 2026

Version 2.2.1

Fixed

Spot Colors Module:  Improved the Spot Colors module behavior to ensure that white and other functional inks (e.g., varnish, primer) from Spot Colors overwrite generated values while blending CMYK process values.

  Info

This improvement maintains compatibility with jobs from previous versions. However, for jobs starting with this version, previous blending behavior for spot-defined white has been eliminated.

Version 2.2.0

New

Automation: Caldera Direct-to-Film RIP now includes an automation module for automatically loading and printing files.

  Info

"Auto Load" is available to all subscribers, and "Auto Print" is only available to Pro and Max subscribers.

Caldera DTF RIP - Automation - Auto Load Enabled.png

You can set an input folder, configure the printing parameters (including printer, media, and preset), and choose the action to take if a job is successfully printed or stopped due to an error (options include ignoring, deleting, or moving the job).

New

Devices and presets. A new White Setting has been added. The "White Highlight" feature lets you boost the application of white ink by your chosen percentage.

  Info

During print or layers previews, pixels with no color (0%) will have the white undercoat boosted to the value set in the "White Highlight" input. Pixels with at least one color channel above 0 (excluding alpha) will use the value determined by their generation strategy.

Both "White as Transparency" and "White Highlight" modes can be activated simultaneously; however, the application of "White as Transparency" will always have priority over the application of "White Highlight".

Improved

Destination Module: Improved Layers Preview display during parameter updates to maintain visibility of the previous preview until a new one is available.

  Info

When the Layers Preview takes time to render, a spinner indicates progress below the Studio area. The software automatically updates the preview with any subsequent parameter changes to ensure it reflects your latest adjustments.

Improved

Print Tracking:

  • Improved the "Print" button functionality by making the last action selected in the dropdown the primary action for direct printing. The dropdown menu has been relocated to the right and still includes options to print directly or to send the print file to a different folder than the one configured for that printer.
  • Also, added the shortcut "Print to..." (Ctrl+Shift+P / Cmd+Shift+P).

Improved
Spot Colors Module: This version includes support for 2,286 new Pantone Coated colors, as well as the software's ability to map these colors using the "Simulated:Lab" strategy to their nearest Lab values (under M1/D65/10° conditions).

Removed
Global Settings: Due to the integration of the new automation module, which includes an auto-loading feature, the "Input hotfolder" toggle and folder field have been removed from the global settings.

Cutter drivers

Fixed
M&R Quatro X: Fixed an issue where the cut mark color was incorrectly modified, preventing device recognition. The software now prints the cut marks in black, as required by the cutter.

January 2026

Version 2.1.0

New

Color Management. A new “Spot Color Preferences” section has been added to the color management options, allowing you to edit the rendering intent (perceptual, relative, saturation, or absolute) and toggle black point compensation (on and off):

New
Operating System: Caldera Direct-to-Film RIP is now officially compatible with macOS Tahoe 26.

New

Spot Colors Module:

  • It is now possible to switch to the "Simulated: Process" mapping strategy by clicking the edit icon next to "Color preview":
Caldera DTF RIP v2.1 - Edit simulated lab.png
This automatically applies the color preview values to the "Simulated: Process" mapping.
  • Coat ink settings (amount and maximum, when applicable) for inks such as White undercoat or Primer are now utilized in the "Simulated: Lab" color preview and the suggested values in "Simulated: Process".
When these coat ink settings are changed in the preset or during last-minute adjustments, the updated values will also be reflected in the spot color mappings.
  • An improvement has been implemented to ensure that spot color gradients remain intact, even in device mode. This maintains blending for device color replacements as well.
  • Finally, now the module automatically sets the default mapping method to "Simulated::Lab" when the software detects a spot color from the Pantone TOP50 library.

Fixed
Devices and Presets: A behavior error that prevented the use of root drive letters (e.g., C:\ or D:) as "Output folder" paths has been corrected, resolving potential "Invalid Path" errors when attempting to use these root folders.

Fixed
Modules Panel: Fixed a bug that prevented the “Configure” button, appearing in the message indicating the need to reconfigure a device or preset, from directing you to the Destination module for device configuration.

Fixed
Print Tracking: Fixed an error where aborting a job in the "In process" queue resulted in a timeout, causing the job to remain in the queue and be processed after reloading the software interface. Aborting a job will now work correctly without timing out.

Fixed
Spot Colors Module: Fixed how the module maps white spot colors. Now, any white spot color will blend with the White Ink channel, regardless of its specific name (e.g., “White”, “WHITE”, “Spot_White”, “WHT”, "white", "White_Ink", "SpotWhite", or "White"). This ensures proper mapping and blending of white spot colors to prevent misprints and rework.

Fixed
User Experience: Alert messages that appear near the Print Tracking area are now available and correctly translated in all supported languages.

Printer drivers

New
TPA 8 Colors

Fixed
Mimaki TxF150 / TxF300: Fixed an issue that caused printing to fail when using the printer after a long cleaning cycle performed via the printer panel. This occurred because the driver timed out while waiting for the printer to finish the maintenance cycle.

Fixed
Roland TY-300: Fixed a bug that caused printing to fail when using the printer for the first time. This occurred because the driver timed out while waiting for the printer to turn on and start its maintenance cycle.

Spectrophotometer drivers

New
X-Rite i1 Pro 2, 3, and 3 Plus: The software now includes three preinstalled and preconfigured spectrophotometers (X-Rite i1Pro 2, i1Pro 3, and i1Pro 3 Plus) to help you expedite the installation and production.

October 2025

Version 2.0.0

New

Color Management. This version introduces new RGB and CMYK input profiles, offering experienced operators additional options for achieving more vibrant color reproduction in prints:

RGB CMYK
  • PrintWide2020_-_Idealliance.icc
  • ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc
  • CoatedFOGRA39.icc
  • eciRGB_v2.icc

These profiles are designed to optimize color management and can improve the richness of color output based on the specific printing setup.

New

Spot Colors Module: The module can now provide an estimated "Best Guess" for spot colors unavailable in the library. Instead of defaulting to unprintable values, users will receive a "Simulated" approximation based on the preview color. This improvement simplifies color selection, saving users time and improving accuracy.

  Info

The module processes preview colors by directly setting Lab values or converting RGB and CMYK values to Lab using ICC profiles, defaulting to sRGB.icc and CalderaCmyk.icc, respectively.

Improved

Print Tracking: To improve the visibility of jobs that may have encountered an error, the micro spooler included in the software now displays jobs in the following order:

  1. "Failed" jobs (if any)
  2. "In process" jobs
  3. "Queued" jobs
  4. "Completed" jobs
  5. "Aborted" jobs (if any)

Improved

User Experience

  • We improved the spacing of interface icons in the devices, presets, and media lists. This adjustment ensures that buttons, such as those for exporting media and presets, appear properly aligned, improving overall usability.
  • To minimize onboarding time, this version includes new preloaded settings:
    • In the Global settings, the File Manager is set to display 100 files per page and 4 files per row.
    • For several generic printer drivers, the default preview format is now BMP.
    • At the Preset level, initial white settings are preloaded for printers that use white ink.
    • Additionally, the Color Management settings include recommended configurations for most production environments.
  • For users experiencing the error "API response error: LIC_USED", which could occur in specific scenarios (such as trying to use both Caldera Direct-to-Film and Direct-to-Garment RIP simultaneously), we have added a clearer message to the splash screen. This update informs users about the exact issue with their license and provides guidance on how to resolve it:
Caldera DTF RIP - splashscreen - license error.png

Fixed
Destination Module: Fixed an issue in the destination panel where changing the device did not correctly display the selected media and preset in use. The selected printer, media, and preset now accurately reflect what is being used in the studio, layer preview, and printing, even after a restart of the GUI (Graphical User Interface).

Fixed
File Manager: Fixed an error that occurred when attempting to add more than 100 images to the File Manager simultaneously.

Fixed
Print Tracking: We fixed an issue that caused jobs to be stuck in the "Queue" list when the job was sent to a device not covered by the user's license.

Fixed
Spot Colors Module: Fixed an issue that prevented the "Simulated: Lab" color previews from being re-computed when switching from a preset without color management to a preset with color management. The color preview now functions as intended

Fixed

User Experience

  • We have resolved a performance issue that could occur for Windows users with AMD processors. The software can now rip jobs significantly faster under various conditions.
  • Fixed a behavior error that caused the software to remain open during the installation of a new version on macOS and Ubuntu.
  • Fixed an issue that caused macOS to display the "About Caldera Direct-to-Film" modal in a native one instead of the software's custom modal, ensuring consistent behavior across all operating systems.

Printer drivers

New
Epson SureColor G6000

New
Roland TY-300

Fixed
Mimaki TxF150 / TxF300: Fixed an error that prevented the display of error messages from these drivers, as they were overlapped by other software errors

Spectrophotometer drivers

Improved
X-Rite i1 Pro 2, 3, and 3 Plus: When adding one of these spectrophotometers, now the default lighting condition is set to M2. This setting filters UV light to reduce the effects of Optical Brightness Agents (OBA) and ink fluorescence, ensuring improved color accuracy and consistency for reliable measurements in typical daylight conditions.

Removed
X-Rite i1 Pro 2, 3, and 3 Plus: The CIELAB color space has been removed from the spectrophotometer settings to reduce future compatibility risks. This change establishes Spectrum as the default color space, ensuring reliable functionality.
