CalderaRIP V17.3 - Changelog

  Info

  • All users: Some configurations are run in the background during the installation, which may seem relatively slow (especially on virtual machines). When the installation finishes, you will be asked to reboot: Please do not force the reboot yourself, as you may end up with an incomplete installation.
  • MacOS Ventura users: If an XQuartz update message appears after the CalderaRIP installation, please do not upgrade since the latest versions of this application present compatibility issues. If you have upgraded already, you can follow this article's instructions to downgrade.

November 2024

Version 17.3.2

Modules

Fixed
User Experience: We fixed a bug that prevented the software from updating licenses by itself (without needing CalderaDock).

July 2024

Version 17.3.1

CalderaCare150.png

Fixed
Caldera REST API: Correction of a bug in the CalderaRIP communication with the Caldera REST API, which did not allow to submit jobs to devices that have been recently renamed (and returned a "500 error").

Printer drivers

New
Roland VersaOBJECT MO-240: A new driver (CMYKGLW) has been developed for printers with that ink configuration.

Fixed
Mimaki JV330 Series (4C and 8C drivers): Correction of a bug in WorkSpace and CalderaDock, which did not allow to view or download these drivers.

Cutter and trimmer drivers

Improved
Liyu Platinum Q Cut and Mimaki CFX: A new "Add direction mark" checkbox was added to the Misc. area of the Cutter Tools Configuration of these drivers. Activating this new field adds direction marks in the form of a triangle pointing to the bottom edge of the cut job, which significantly speeds up the operators' work when managing these files.

Improved

Mimaki CJV300 (VisualCut driver): Now the driver supports intermediate marks in the left/right edges of the job.

  Info

These new intermediate marks must be enabled in the Cutter Tools Configuration window, by setting a distance between marks and enabling the marks on left and right edges.
Default settings remain as formerly set to avoid behavior changes on current configurations.

Fixed
OptiSCOUT Connected: Fixed a bug in the driver code, which ignored the synchronization of methods with certain special characters (e.g. a dash "-"). Now methods with these special characters are not ignored.

Fixed
Summa F Series (GoProduce driver): Correction of the file name/ID generation process, to avoid names with negative or incorrect values.

Fixed

Summa OPOS Xtra: To improve the user experience, the left and right Barcodes have been disabled since they are ineffective with OPOS Xtra devices and may cause the marks to overlap if they are used.
Deactivation of these marks will appear by default in new installations.

VisualCut drivers concerned:

  • HP Latex Cutter
  • HP Latex Plus
  • HP Latex Plus OPOS Xtra
  • Summa OPOS Xtra
  • Summa PostNet (old)
  • Summa S2 PostNet (panelling)
  • Summa S3 OPOS Xtra
  • Summa S3 PostNet

Version 17.3.0

Modules

New

OS: CalderaRIP is now officially compatible with Ubuntu 24.04.

New

Workflow: A new feature has been added to the Workflow Editor for adding and editing labels, which improves the management of productions with many workflows.

Improved

Cut management:

  • A new "Add direction mark" checkbox was added to the Misc. area of the Cutter Tools Configuration for almost all GrandCut and Visual Cut drivers (see list at the end of this article):
    CalderaRIP V16.3 - Cutter tool config - Orientation mark.png
Activating this new field adds direction marks in the form of a triangle pointing to the bottom edge of the cut job, which significantly speeds up the operators' work when managing these files.

  • Added randomness to the starting ID in barcode generation, to prevent starting with the smallest number and reduce potential ID duplication.

  • We now include cutter drivers that are in Beta phase, so that you can have early access to them for tests. When you add these cutters, the text "Experimental" or "Beta" will be displayed in parentheses next to the name:

      Warning

Please note that these drivers have not yet been tested by Caldera with physical devices. Test them at your own risk and, if in doubt, refer to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Improved

Print Management: For printers that support multilayer printing, we added a button next to the layer field to clear all layers quickly:

Delete MultiLayer.png

Improved

User Experience: With the addition of the Workflow Editor tags, the sorting and management of workflows (visible from the ImageBar > Right click > Send To...) has been improved for productions with many workflows:

Fixed

ImageBar (Filtering): Fixed an incorrect behavior when dragging and dropping filtered images from the ImageBar to the Compose module. Previously, that action ignored the ImageBar filter and added more or less of the selected images to the Compose module.

Fixed

Tiling: Fixed incorrect behavior where the names of the generated tile files did not match the name of the print job (especially when there were more than 4 characters after a dot).

  • Numeric Descending: 10-job.tif is processed before 2-job.pdf
  • Alphabetical Ascending: 10A-job.tif is processed before 1A-job.tif
  • Alphabetical Descending: 1A-job.tif is processed before 10A-job.tif

Fixed

Kornit Presto Max (White driver): An issue with ink consumption inaccuracies in the XML files of this driver has been fixed. Now, the driver accurately records white ink usage data in CostProof and the XML file, ensuring correct metrics for the printing process.

Fixed
Kyocera Forearth: Fixed this driver's output format, which previously had a slight mismatch.

Fixed

Mimaki JFX200-2513 EX (6c-and-special driver) and Mimaki UJF Mkll (UJF6042 driver): Fixed the "Can't open binary config [...]: Too many open files" error that appeared when the printer was offline for a long time.

Fixed

Mimaki JV330 Series:

  • 4c and 8c drivers: We fixed a communication error (“ink requested by mode is not available on printer”) between the printer and the driver, which could occur when printing a job with S&R or several copies.
  • 8c driver: Fixed a bug that did not allow the use of the 600x900 resolution (when using it, an error "Unable to send data to the printer" was generated in the Spooler).
  • 4c driver: Fixed the "Can't open binary config [...]: Too many open files" error that appeared when the printer was offline for a long time.

Fixed
Misc GenericPRT2 (all drivers): A new "No lines order inversion" checkbox was added to the Printer tab of the Printer settings. Enabling this setting prevents the driver from generating the data in reversed order (which speeds up the RIP process, especially in remote environments).

Fixed
Mutoh XpertJet 1682SR (Pro and Prok) / 1642WR (Pro) and 1682WR: Fixed some parameters of the ink carriage speed that caused the interface to refresh slowly.

Fixed
SwissQprint Karibu/Kudu: It is no longer possible to use the multi-page settings available in the Main tab of Page Setup in combination with S&R (Step&Repeat). This is to avoid production issues due to incompatibilities with both tabs.

  • Now there is a return address that can be sent to the controller to tell jobs are done.
  • The new "Add direction mark" checkbox (mentioned here).

Fixed

Flexa:

  • CalderaRIP now includes a pre-loaded default configuration specific to Flexa Miura (Plus) of 2650 mm.

      Info

The new pre-loaded configuration will only appear on a new installation and/or an installation that has never created specific configurations for Flexa.

  • Fixed a bug that could occur when using these trimmers in combination with the Nest action of the Print Module Interface.

Fixed
Kongsberg Enhanced JDF: The compressed file is now written in the temporary folder first, then moved to the HotFolder (to avoid incompatibility problems).

Fixed

Mimaki UCJV:

  • Fixed the cut marks precision to improve accuracy in production.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when choosing "None" for positioning in the VisualCut module. With this fix, the driver is more adaptable and allows you to perform lettering.
  • Now the driver supports intermediate marks in the left/right edges of the job.

      Info

These new intermediate marks must be enabled in the Cutter Tools Configuration window, by setting a distance between marks and enabling the marks on the left and right edges.
Default settings remain as formerly set to avoid behavior changes on current configurations.

Spectrophotometers

Improved

Xrite i1IO3 Plus: Added gap-less target support to Xrite i1IO3 Plus to improve patch recognition and accuracy, reducing crashes and unexpected behaviors, especially with polarization filters.
