In this troubleshooting guide, we will address six common license errors and provide solutions for each issue.
Issue 1: License file is not valid (00400008)
This error occurs when the selected license file is invalid. To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps:
- Verify that the correct license file is being selected.
- If the correct license file is selected and the issue persists, rehost the license.
Issue 2: Internal error (004EFFFF) upon CalderaRIP launch
This error occurs when the license file is unavailable after a power failure or a hardware change in the RIP workstation.
Here the solution is also to rehost the license.
Issue 3: Inconsistent System Time Detected (002D0006)
This error occurs when the system time is incorrect, often due to a BIOS battery issue or power failure.
Please refer to the dedicated article.
Issue 4: Unknown error (00210002) upon CalderaRIP launch
This error occurs when Sentinel LDK is downgraded by older software like X-rite iPublish or EFI Fiery RIP. The solution is to reinstall Sentinel LDK with the CalderaDock application (V3.2 or later):
Info
This error is also related to two other errors that could occur when handling fingerprint files in the deprecated KeyManager module ("NOT Defined - Unable to get fingerprint file (00210002)" or "Protection Communication Problem 00210002").

Issue 5: Unknown error (002AFFFF) when loading a license file
This error occurs when the Sentinel LDK is too old. As seen before, to troubleshoot this issue reinstall Sentinel LDK with the CalderaDock application (V3.2 or later).
You may be interested in reading: What is Sentinel LDK and how to install it?
Issue 6: Unknown error (00280002) when opening CalderaRIP or Sentinel
This error occurs when the local Sentinel service cannot communicate with the remotely hosted Sentinel service. To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps:
- Check the network connection and ensure a solid ping can be achieved to the CalderRIP hosting the license server:
- If the Caldera license server is on a different LAN, follow the instructions in the provided link to fix the issue:
- How to share a Caldera license between multiple workstations? (Different LAN)
Issue 7: WorkSpace message: "Error while generating your license (61)"
The issue can be encountered during license registration in WorkSpace, where an error message appears after uploading and processing the fingerprint.c2v file:
_T_REGISTRATION_FILE_ERROR-T_REGISTRATION_FILE_ERROR_CONTACT_US.
Error while generating your license (61).The issue is due to a fingerprint.c2v file created with a too-old version of Sentinel LDK and therefore not be valid when registering to Caldera's WorkSpace. To fix this:
- Reinstall Sentinel LDK with the CalderaDock application (V3.2 or later):
You may be interested in reading: What is Sentinel LDK and how to install it?
-
If you suspect that the Sentinel LDK installation is being interrupted by other software such as the X-rite i1Profiler or ProfileMaker software, remove the application from your computer, or install the latest version of that software.
Info
If you are using an old version of ProfileMaker, with an old dongle, be aware that the dongle may stop working. In that case, please contact X-Rite for an upgrade.
- Once everything is up to date, you can continue with the license registration process.
Issue 8: "License is unavailable (0032000A)"
This message typically appears when the workstation loses its network connection. If the software was active at the time, it may have been unable to access the license due to the interruption in network connectivity. A common cause is the computer entering sleep mode while CalderaRIP remains open.
Restarting the software usually solves the issue, but if that does not work, you can try restarting the service with CalderaDock. Learn more.

This article explains how to register/activate a new product license using CalderaDock.
You can read the full instructions below or watch the short overview video:
Recorded with a previous version of CalderaDock and demonstrating the activation of a CalderaRIP license 1. Create a Caldera account
To create an account, go to Caldera's customer portal WorkSpace, and fill in the account creation form (need help with this? Click here). You will receive an activation email soon after.
2. Download and Install CalderaDock
Before requesting a demo license or activating any license, you must install CalderaDock on your workstation. This application automatically generates your system’s unique hardware identifier (called a fingerprint file) during the license management.
Download the latest version of CalderaDock from the main dashboard of WorkSpace and install it (need help with this? Click here).
3. Get your License
You can request a demo license directly from CalderaDock. The application includes a form that allows you to submit a request:
The demo license is software-based and generated automatically. It becomes available in your account within a few seconds, unless:
- The allowed demo period has already expired (in which case you can request a renewal), or
- Too many demo licenses have been requested for the same account.
After purchasing a Caldera product, the license information is provided in one of the following ways:
- Sent directly to the end user in a Welcome email
- Sent to the partner or reseller responsible for the installation
The email typically contains the required license details (such as the access number and activation code).
Good to know
You may obtain different types of commercial licenses (such as perpetual or subscription). Licenses can also be hardware-based (historically more common with perpetual licenses) or software-based, depending on how the license is delivered and activated. Learn more.
4. Activate your License
- Open CalderaDock.
- Sign in with your Caldera account if you are not already signed in:
-
In the Home tab, click "Register a license":
Info
You can also register a license from the Licenses tab using the Add button:
-
Enter the required license details depending on your license type:
- Software-based License: Access number (6 digits) and Activation code (20 digits). These details are provided by email after purchase or when requesting a demo license.
- Hardware-based License: Access number (6 digits) and Dongle code (10 digits). These details are provided by email after purchase. You will also receive a Media Pack containing the physical dongle.
After entering the information, click Fetch:
-
When the license is found (for example, a CalderaRIP license), review the included features and click Next:
- (Optional) If your license includes printer drivers, you can assign them during this step. This can also be done later if needed:
-
In the final step, activate the license on the current machine:
Click Activate my license:
Connect the dongle if it is not already plugged in:
Once detected, click Activate my license:
- Wait a few moments while the activation completes:
- When finished, you can:
- Click Manage my Applications to install a Caldera product, or
-
Click Manage my Licenses to view and manage your licenses.
Info
If only one compatible license is available, CalderaDock automatically attaches it to the installed product after activation. The status will appear as “Pending for attachment” until the software is launched. You can verify the attachment in the Licenses tab before launching the software.
If you are running Caldera on a Virtual Machine with a software‑based license, the attachment process is different. For more details, refer to this article.

Check/Fix profiles allow you to check and fix PDF files according to predefined rules. They ensure files meet print or cutting requirements by detecting and correcting issues such as missing fonts, incorrect color spaces, or cut contour inconsistencies.
In PrimeCenter, preflight profiles can be applied to input files (before processing) or output files (after processing). You can apply them manually or automatically as part of a recipe.
- To learn more about managing check/fix profiles, read this article.
- To learn more about applying a check/fix profile, read this article.
What is a check/fix profile?
Check/fix profiles, are also called KFPX profiles due to their .kfpx format, preflight profiles, or fixups. They use callas technology, developed in partnership with Adobe, to analyze and modify files based on predefined rules.
A profile functions like a script, allowing you to:
- Check file compliance with specific PDF standards.
- Fix issues by modifying file parameters or adding necessary elements.
- Apply transformations, such as adding cut contours, crop marks, barcodes, rotation, or mirroring.
Callas’ pdfToolbox software even allows users to create custom profiles, offering nearly limitless possibilities.
Preflight profiles in PrimeCenter
Ready-to-use preflight profiles
PrimeCenter includes a set of preconfigured profiles. If you have advanced knowledge of callas profiles, you can also import and use your own.
Refer to this article for a complete list of built-in preflight profiles.
Two types of profiles
Check/fix profiles can be divided into two categories:
- Check profiles: Analyze the file and generate a visual feedback in the interface. A PDF and/or XML report can be generated.
- Fix profiles: Modify the file based on predefined rules. A visual feedback confirms the fix, and the corrected PDF is generated. A PDF and/or XML report can also be created.
Although check/fix profiles are designed for PDFs, PrimeCenter automatically converts other file formats into PDF, making it possible to apply profiles to non-PDF files as well.
Ways to apply a profile
Manual vs. automatic application
- Manually: Select and apply profiles manually after importing files or before exporting files.
- Automatically: The profile is applied automatically to files processed through a recipe, without user intervention.
Input files vs. output files
- Input files: Profiles are applied before processing, ensuring clean files enter the workflow.
- Output files: Profiles are applied after processing, modifying generated print or cut files before final export.
Feature availability by package
The available ways to apply a profile depend on your PrimeCenter package.
Input file Output cut file Output print file Manually Automatically Via XML job ticket N/A N/A Input file Output cut file Output print file Manually All packages Automatically All packages Via XML job ticket N/A N/A Managing check/fix profiles
Preflight profiles are stored in the software and can be selected, configured, and removed as needed. To learn how to manage them, see Managing check/fix profiles.
Configuring check/fix profiles
The settings of check/fix profiles follow a consistent structure:
Variable settings
These settings vary depending on the selected profile.
Info
When customized, settings are automatically saved for future use.
Output settings
These default settings are inherited from Check/Fix default settings but can be overridden for each profile. at the recipe level. You can enable or disable PDF/XML reports as needed.
Actions
Reset to default settings
Restores profile settings to their original values.
Export fixup list as an XML template
- Allows integration into fully automated workflows.
- When used in an input XML job ticket, the profiles in the recipe are overridden by those in the ticket.
- Click this button to generate an XML template with selected profiles and parameters.

Back up CalderaRIP
Backing up is important to prevent the loss of production-critical data if something goes wrong after an operating system or software update.
For CalderaRIP users, production-critical data includes profiles and spot colors, as well as printer settings. Learn more.
Caldera Snapshots (via CalderaDock)
- Saves everything shared between all users on the local machine
- It copies files from
/opt/calderato/opt/caldera_snapshots/XXXX - No need to reinstall drivers, as executables are also copied (that is also why it would not work to reinstall on a different operating system)
Save/Restore Config (via CalderaDock)
- Saves everything specific to the users in their hidden directory
- It can also copy the profiles and driver configuration files as an option (but does not include executables, they need to be reinstalled manually), plus Nexio configuration and cutter-specific files
For more details, please refer to the dedicated article: How to automatically backup CalderaRIP?
For more details, please refer to the dedicated article: How to manually backup each element of CalderaRIP?
Back up PrimeCenter
Before attempting to downgrade macOS, it's necessary to back up your PrimeCenter data.
As for CalderaRIP, you can use Caldera Snapshots (via CalderaDock) to save your current settings securely. This step ensures you can keep your configurations and preferences.
Warning
- Backing up data with Caldera Snapshots is easy. It ensures your PrimeCenter settings are preserved.
- However, restoring data after a macOS downgrade is complex. Each situation is unique, and Apple typically advises against downgrading due to these complexities.
- A snapshot saves data but not the installation file, making full restoration challenging.
- Reinstalling macOS or attempting to restore a snapshot on a different machine may lead to macOS security warnings.
Back up macOS
After backing up the information from your Caldera product(s), you can attempt the macOS downgrade.
The most reliable method for preparing for a downgrade is using Time Machine (the backup mechanism of macOS).
Downgrade macOS
Caution
Downgrading macOS can lead to unexpected challenges, including potential data loss or system instability. We highly recommend consulting with a professional or Apple's support resources before proceeding with a downgrade.
Case 1: If you accidentally upgraded to macOS 15 Sequoia from the previous version of macOS, and you want to downgrade, the following articles explain how to do it:
